Did I answer your note years ago? Mary Schlemmer Wright is my Grandmother's Sister. Their parents are Charles Schlemmer and Catharine Ohlweiler. Catharine died very early around age 24 and when Charles died he was 31. He owned a tavern and died with liver complaints. My Grandmother was legally adopted by John Ohlweiler that owned the bottling plant in Rock Island. He actually was a 2nd Cousin of Catharine. The younger brother,Johnny was also adopted by a Korb family. Feel free to look at my pedigree, I have belonged to Ancestry since they started. I have a great deal of information on these family members if you need something let me know. My Grandmother is Margaret Cora Schlemmer Ohlweiler Beardsley. (Husband: Henry Beardsley) (also go to: www. illinoisancestors.org for more info) Barbara Appleby

I am trying to definitively determine who the parents were of Mary Rebecca Johnson who married John David Schlemmer, son of Peter and Catherine Schlemmer. The marriage took place July 1867. An Obituary for Mary in the Bremen Library does not give the names. She died on 10 Mar 1886 and is said to be buried in Bremen. Does anyone have access to the records at a Lutheran Church? Perhaps her marriage or death records contain the names.
Some confusion with your info. I've had great luck with Darrel. He was Leonard's nephew, son of Leonard's sister Helen Schlemmer (1903-18 Dec 1922 in Mishawaka, IN) Helen died in giving birth to Darrel E.(8 Dec 1922-1 Mar 1985 in Simi Valley, CA. Wife was Marjorie R. ?, Son was Kurt Philip (20 Oct 1959). Kurt Married Elizabeth Diane Waldau in 1985 in Venture, Ca, and they had Darrel Joady in 1993. Kurt's phone: 805-527-3959. Address: 5368 Rainwood St., Unit 66, Simi Valley 93063.----Leonard Harold Schlemmer, 10 Jan 1917-23 Nov 1986 in Hernando, Florida. He married Helen Elizabeth Walker (b abt 1914 in IN) in St. Joseph Co., IN on 11 Dec 1936. Leonard lived in Mishawaka. In 1936 or 37 he lived in Elkart. In 1938 he and Helen lived in South Bend. In 1941 they lived in Mishawaka again, close to his parents and Darrell. Served in the Army in 1944, went back to Mishawaka in1946, then moved with Helen to Spring Hill, FL. Who is Sellers? I could not connect him/them and don't know who they are. What are your dad and grandpa's first names. Which Sophie did you mean as being your 3X Greatmother?----Philip Elmer married twice, to Bertha Raines and Laura? Mentioned also included were Violet, and Albert F and Mabel.

Just curious if we were related. Not sure. In the censuses on the web there are Charles and Margaret Schlemmer )spelled Schlimser) in Mahanoy, Schuykill, PA. THey had children that match your specifics (twins, girls, etc) but no Friedrich Samuel. Might he be George Henry, born Sep 1898 or Christ 1891? Margaret died but not until between 1910 and 1920. If this is the right family, they married in 1887. I found only one Friedrich Samuel Schlemmer; he was son of Nicholas Schlemmer in Marion, IN (Indianopolis). He was lived 5 Oct 1894-31 Dec 1990. Maybe he was adopted by an Uncle (Nicholas?) But his is listed in NO census with Charles and Margaret but all the siblings were. Charles Schlemmer's parents were CHristian and Sophie. Christian's mother's first name was Wilamina. Various sources say they came from France, Germany, Bavaria, etc. IF France, I could access the French site for Alsace. It's on Ancestry.com, at least. Let me know if I can help. From a distant Schlemmer.

Who was Magdalena Schlemmer?

I'm looking for information on Magdalena Schlemmer. My great great grandfather, Otto Poock, married Magdalena Schlemmer on May 17, 1859 in Dayton Ohio. In the 1860 census, they were living with Michel and Catherine Schlemmer. This same census puts Magdalena's birth year about 1843. Magdalena died February 18, 1878, and Otto died February 25, 1879. Otto and Magdalena are buried in Dayton, Ohio in the same section and lot of Woodland Cemetery where Michel and Catherine Schlemmer are buried. Also in this section is a child of Otto's daughter. I have been in touch with Rodger Halstead who has also researched Michel and Catherine Schlemmer. He has no daughter named Magdalena with this family. He does have a daughter named Laura. I think Laura and Magdalena may be one and the same. Rodger does not. I'm hoping someone out there will have some information that will help settle exactly who Magdalena Schlemmer really was.
I'm sure Magdalena was an immigrant, because she is listed in the censuses as being born in France. I believe she was born in the Alsace region, but I believe she was probably more German than French since that territory changed hands quite a bit. I have not looked in "Germans to America", nor have I heard of it. If I did find her there, would it tell me where she was born?
As for Michel being Magdalena's brother, the age difference was far too great. He would have had to be her father or uncle, or perhaps even a cousin to her father.

I have a Schlemmer line that "starts" in Allen County, Indiana. They migrate to Scott County, Missouri. Immigrating ancestor is Sophie born 1830 in Liedelstein, Alsace, France.
Surname variations include Slemmer and Slimmer.
Most of what I have was generously shared in 1993 by Sharon ____, whose name and address I have sadly lost.

I am resesrching my grandfathers history. His name was Frederick Samuel Schlemmer. He was born in August 1894 and was living in PA when his mother, Margaret, passed away. His father gave him up for adoption after Margaret passed away and he remarried. Fred was 9 years old. He had twin sisters that passed away in their teens and two brothers. He was adopted by a family in Canton Ohio and worked on their farm. I am trying to find his fathers name to check the origins of the family. Anyone with any information please respond to this thread. Thanks

Thank you very much. If you have a photo of Mike and Mildred, may I have a copy? I have noticed certain Cullivans have the same features, even those who aren't connected for over 200 years. Pretty fascinating.

I found Mildred's death on the SSDI. It looks like she may have gone to Norfolk VA after her husband died, where I think one of her brothers lived. (FYI - I found his obituary, too, using Google for Mildred Cullivan and Florida. He spelled his last name differently.)
