Ronald Schaaf, Garage Owner, Dies Sunday

Ronald Schaaf, 51, a resident of 711 East 10th Street, died unexpectedly at 10: 55 p.m. Sunday at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Schaaf was born April 8, 1924, in Atlantic, the son of Louie and Dora Schaaf. He attended rural Walnut schools system and married Irma Eilts at the home of her parents in Franklin Township October 10, 1946. Following their marriage, they farmed for two years southwest of Atlantic and moved to town in 1948. Mr. Schaaf owned and operated the S and H Garage with Bernard Howard for several years.

He began working for Northern Natural Gas in 1953 and retired in 1968. Later he operated Ron’s 66, East 7th, until 1972 and since then has been self-employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge 445 and an Atlantic volunteer fireman for several years.

Surviving are his widow, Irma, a brother, Donald of Wiota, a half-brother, John Andresen of Medford, Ore.; his father-in-law John Eilts; a nephew Paul Schaaf of Wiota; two nieces, Mrs. Don (Marsha) Cobb of Wood River, Illinois, and Mrs. Jim (Peggy) Glynn of Wiota; five great-nieces; and three great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Roland Funeral Home with the Pastor David Berg of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. 11mitchell@mchsi.com
