Dorothy Anne Schaad, 87, of Waterford, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Muskingum Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born December 26, 1925, in Marietta, Ohio, daughter of Paul and Carolyn Bailey Schmidt.

She was a loving mother and homemaker.

She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Marietta, Ohio in 1943.

In her early years she had been secretary for former Governor William O’Neil and was clerk for the Village of Stockport, Ohio. (Morgan County)

She was a member of the St. Bernard's Catholic Church, President of the Stockport, Ohio Child Conservation League, the Total Ministry Program of the Steubenville Diocese, and the National Farmers Organization (NFO) for over forty years.


Dorothy knitted an Afghan for every child and grandchild’s wedding.
She donated an Afghan to the annual National Farmers Organization banquet raffle every year for the past twenty-five years.
Dorothy loved the game of Scrabble and passed down the fun to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! Dorothy had a beautiful voice and shared her talent with church and community.



She was married November 11, 1948, to Earl Schaad who survives.

Also surviving are thirteen children - Christopher Schaad and wife Linda of Dale, Allana Salimbene and husband John of Columbus, Ohio, Theresa Kimbrel and husband Ron of LaVita, Colorado, Jim Schaad, Paul Schaad, Joe Schaad and wife Janice all of Waterford, Ohio, Dan Schaad of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Bill Schaad and wife Janet of Dallas, Texas, Bob Schaad and wife Meg of Willmington, Ohio, Carolyn Plummer of Waterford, Sarah Seeke and husband Tom of Marquette, Michigan, Frank Schaad and wife Susan of Richmond, Virginia, and Patrick Schaad of Lake Charles, Louisiana; thirty-four grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren; a sister Carol Patterson and husband Dave of Houston, Texas; a sister in law Charlyn Schmidt of Williamstown, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Michael Schaad, two brothers Jim and Ben Schmidt, and a son in law Michael Plummer.

Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Bernard Catholic Church
Burial was in St. Bernard Cemetery.
