Hi,
I was born in 1967 and at the time my grandmother Rose Searce ran the 'Greyhound' pub (Scearces) in Reading. My mother and father along with us kids all lived here too. My grandfather John William Scearce unfortunately passed away in 1945, he was a blacksmith who had a forge at the rear of the pub. My grandparents had 2 children, Barbara (my mother) and Derek. Little is known about my grandfather as my mother was only 8yrs old when he died. My uncle Derek has a gate name plate from 1 of the old railings my grandfather made. unfortunately most of the railings in the area were removed during ww2 to make ammunition. my mother has some great photos of the old pub and the smithy shop. Feel free to e-mail me for more info or if you would like me to scan some photos.
