Carman H Scadden, 91, of Liberty, Texas, formerly of Sun City, Ariz., and Sherman, N.Y., died Sunday (Dec. 13, 2009). He was born June 7, 1918 in Nampa, Idaho, the son of the late Joseph Scadden and Mary Hobrieght Scadden Anderson.

Carman was a 1937 graduate of Sherman Central School.
He was drafted from the National Guard into the U.S. Army in November 1940 until 1945. He served in North Africa, Sicily, New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II, where he attained the rank of First Sergeant. He was awarded several medals during his tour of duty. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in Sherman.
He was also employed by Sherman Steam Mills, Dairyman's League and later by the Town of Sherman Highway Department. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, his animals, and gun collecting.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Clara Scadden; son, Carman (Gayle) Scadden of Sherman;
daughter, Glenna Scadden of Liberty, Texas;
and adopted son, Cameron (Heather) Scadden of Glendale, Ariz.; four step-children, Adrian, Beverly, Danny and Ernie; nine grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years, Gloria Wilcox Scadden;
his second wife of eight years, Ellen Hoyt Thiem Scadden; half brother, Fred Anderson of Idaho;
half sisters, Emma Adams of California
and June Anderson Gibson of Celoron, N.Y.

A graveside service may be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Stanley Hose Fire Company of Sherman, N.Y., or the National Rifle Asso-ciation.
