I have hit a dead end finding info on my gg grandma Dollie. I did find a Cayuga newspaper showing a marriage license issued to her and Spencer L. Cornwell on 07/29/1907 in Bosque Co.
CORNWELL, SPENCER SCARBEROUGH, DOLLIE 29 JUL 1907 H©349
My grandma always referred to him as Spence or Lafit (how she pronounced it). I know Spence was from Anderson Co. and I believe Dollie was as well.
Their children are Ida Mae b. 1908 in Cayuga; Jack/John William b. 1912; Grace S. b. 1913 (hard to confirm, because Aunt Grace always lied about her age and we know for certain there's no birth certificate); Richard b. 1915; Ruth Irene b. 1918.
My g grandma, Ida Mae, said that Dollie was not her given name. She said her mom was a twin and believes their names were possibly Alvarene and Josephine Scarborough and that her twin died as an infant.
I find them as Cornwells in a few censuses in Anderson with various spellings and some other children's names, that no one can identify. I can't place her before marriage in 1907 as a Scarborough, as I don't know her true name or her parents info.
Her son, Richard, lived with her almost continuously until her death, as he was hit in the head with an axe at a young age and suffered traumatic brain injury.
My grandmother also said Spence went to prison - supposedly for shooting a young man, possibly her brother, at a party. I can't find anything relating to this either, but if true, would place him in prison sometime between 1917 and 1929. (I do plan on checking the inmate records in Austin to confirm this part). Seems like this would have made one of the newspapers, though.
I know they spent the majority of their lives in the East Texas Counties (and way later in Harris Co. where she and Spence are buried) and I have hunted almost all Texas counties, with no luck. I would be ever grateful, if someone had any clues they could pass along. :)
Thanks!
