Ok new information is my greatgrandparents were Fred (Fritz) Sbresny and he married Ottilie Kostka. I have found where she came in 1903 from Germany but do not find anything for Fred or Fritz. I believe Ottillie went back and got her sisters Auguste, Bertha, and Wilhelmine in 1903. I was told that a family member had died and she had to go back to claim some land but the trip took to long and she was not able to claim it for some reason. I have also found a John Sbresny who lived in the sebewaing area and his wife and children were on the same ship in 1903 as Ottilie and her sisters. I was wondering if he might be Fred's brother. If anyone has any info on these people I would greatly appreciate some help.

Hello,
I have just finished researching Ida Sbresny husbands side.
She had married Oscar Bill and they lived in Sebewaing.

However, I thought I would take a quick look at Sbresny. I hadnt planned on researching that side yet.

Anyway came upon your post.

Ida came over with the family that you speak of.
Her parents
Johann(John) and Bertha
Most likely Fritz and John are siblings, cousins at the least. I did find John death certificate after i read you post.
John Spresney born May 2 1864
Parents: Carl Spresney and Lizzie Rex
I also found them on the 1910 census in Sebewaing, more children by this time.

I have composed a list of websites that i used during my research for the Bill family of Sebewaing. Would you like me to send it to you. Ive been doing genealogy for 10yrs...
So ive learned my way around pretty good by now.

Im sure you know, when searching for Sbresny, every time you will need to try several different spellings. Some records were transcribe very bad.

Ill send you some links to search.

Thanks Christine, I welcome any help I can get with where to find information on this family. I have contacted the St Peters Lutheran Church in Bach as that is where my grandparents were members when they still lived on the farm near Gagetown before they retired and moved to Reese. I have not heard back from the church yet but am hoping they might have some info also. I do know that they are buried in the St Peters Cemetery. I have found where Ottillie had went back to Germany and came back to the US with 3 of her sisters. I have yet to find when they originally came here. I do have a little bit of information on this family but am still looking for more.

Hello,
I took a little time this morning to look around, see what I could find.
In my opinion I don’t think she probably went back to Germany, unless you have very strong family info, that indicates this is true. Most women had many children to take care of , and it would have been costly.
Ottollie states on the ships manifest, when ask if she ever was in the USA, answer is No.
My husbands family came over 1905, the men coming first , followed by the women. And there were many families.
They came to Sebewaing to get jobs at the Sugar Factory.

I find
Ellis Island Arrival November 18 1902
Johann Sbrezesny
Fred Sbrzesny
Rudolph Kostaka
Johann (???)

All going to Sebewaing to Join W. Dembowski
_________________________________________________________________________
Im unable to get the full info on the census, because I don’t have a subscription to Ancestry website.
You would be able to find out, citizenship, and other info.
All In Huron County
1910 USA Census Sbresny
Found as Sbreing
Fred and Odelia

1910 USA Cesus Sbresny
Found as Sbresny
John and Bertha

1920 USA Census Sbresny
Found as Streney
Fred and Julia

1930 USA Census Sbresny
Found as Aubusny
Fred and Tillie

You can see how the name is different, which make it hard to find info.
*My John and Bertha Sbresny both died before 1920.
_________________________________________________________________
John Spresny born May 2 1864 died in Huron county December 4th 1914
His parents where
Carl Spresny
Lizzie Rex
All born in Germany

Fred and John could be brothers,
Have you gotten an obit or death record for Fred and Ottillie?
Fred Sbresny 1874- 1946
Ottillie 1876 -1944

They both had a lot of children
And may be more, the first name spellings are different on each census so im not sure how there really spelled.

Ok,
Did you take a look at the info I sent you?

Was there something in particular you were looking for.

All his children are listed on the Census records.
We know when he arrived.

And if John is his brother we know.
Freds parents would be
Carl Spresny and Elizabeth Rex.

Tuscola county board would probably do a obit lookup when you find his exact date of death for Fred and Ottillie, Ive used request before.

Also the Cass City chronicle has about 300 entries for Sbresney. Its searchable online.

Good luck

Yes I have looked the info over and now I am trying to find the census records. I can access Heritage.com from home due to our local library has it and I can use me library card. I have not found the census records on there so I will have to go to the library to access their Ancestry.com library edition,(wish I could access that from home as well) hopefully I can find more there. I just talked to my mom and she said that she remembers Irma stating that the Sbresny's were related to Dembowski's but she isn't sure how. Now the only people to ask are my parents generation and it is based on what they can remember. I do know my Aunt had said that she remembered something being said about Ottillie going back to Germany due to a death in the family and she had to go back to claim some land but she did not make it back in time to do so, so I was just assuming the record I found of her and her sisters coming was that trip, I could be wrong. I am still waiting to hear back from St Peters in Bach, hopefully they will some kind of baptism record for my grandfather or his siblings that will give more information like who godparents were. I would find it very interesting if Johann (John) is listed as one. I will let you know if I can find anything when I hear back from them.

I was wondering where you found Johann's Parents? Do you have a place in Germany where they came from? If so I can get microfilms at the Family History Center here in town and go thru those to see if I can find more information there.

Hello,
All the information I had given you I found online free.
Its just a matter of looking around.

You mentioned going to the library for Ancestry website access. You can join that website, free. You can partially look at records, that is where I got all the census informaion I gave you. I have been a memeber of Ancestry.com since 2001. What I did was buy the familytree maker program from Walmart and it came with a free membership for 6 months. It would probably have a large majority of what you need. Just a thought. I have never had to go library for anything yet. There is alot of things online, just gotta look around.

I mentioned the sbresney obits in the Cass City Chronicle, thats free. And they probably have more obits.
