PLATTSBURGH — Sr. Elizabeth Sayah, RSM (formerly Sr. Joseph Marie Sayah, RSM) died on Thursday evening, June 22, 2006, at Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, N.Y.

Sister was born in Altona, N.Y., daughter of Irving and Ella (Murphy) Sayah on Jan. 1, 1935.

She was a 1952 graduate of Altona Central School. Sister did undergraduate study at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and Marymount College. She received her MS in Education from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1962. Sister received her certificate of Spiritual Theology from Regis College in Toronto, Canada, in 1986. Most of her life, she served various schools in the Diocese of Ogdensburg, having taught first grade at St. John's Academy, Plattsburgh, N.Y., from 1957 to 1966. She also served on the Parish Team at St. John's Parish from 1987 to 2001. She was pastoral assistant for the Catholic Community of Keeseville, N.Y., from 1986 to 1987 and served as principal of St. Bernard's School, Saranac Lake, N.Y., from 1967 to 1982. Recently Sister assumed the position of administrative assistant to the community offices in Hartsdale, N.Y.

Sister is survived by her brothers, Irving of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., Gerald (Jane) of Altona, N.Y., Donald (Shirley) of Altona, N.Y., and sisters, Doris Fagan of Morrisonville, N.Y., and Evelyn (Ronald) Ryan of Ellenburg, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be at Marian Woods, Hartsdale, N.Y., on Sunday, June 25, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at Brown Funeral Home, Broad Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y. on Tuesday, June 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with the funeral at St. John's Church, Plattsburgh, N.Y. on Wednesday, June 28, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake, N.Y.
