Altona — Mrs. Helen "Ella" M. Sayah, 97, of the Clinton County Nursing Home and formerly of Altona, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the nursing home.

She was born in Willsboro on July 23, 1903, the daughter of John and Mary Ann (Carver) Murphy.

She married Irving Sayah, Nov. 26, 1931, at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Her family, church and love of the outdoors were most important to her.

She was a member of Holy Angels Church in Altona. She was also a member of Rockside Senior Citizens.

Ella is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Irving and Geraldine Sayah of Lyon Mountain, Gerald and Jane Sayah of Altona and Donald Sayah and Shirley Mock of Altona; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris and Bill Fagan of Plattsburgh, Sr. Elizabeth Sayah of Plattsburgh and Evelyn and Ronald Ryan of Ellenburg Depot. She is survived by ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Irving Sayah. Four sisters, Anna Parker, Mae Duquette, Elizabeth Shambo and Gertrude Provost also died earlier.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at 11 a.m. from Holy Angels Church in Altona. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
