All the info. coinsides with a story written by my G-grandmother,Lula Massey, shortly before her death,1926,Pho,AZ. abt her relationship with John Sawyer between aprx,1890,1894. Key Pts when Lula met John: 1.His wf had died shortly aft 4th son born,late 1800's. 2.The boys lived with John's family near Swain Co. 3.He work'd @ Saw Mills,but Gunsmith by trade. 4.He died suddenly before they could marry,leaving lula to raise their unborn Dtr,Martha Ellen Sawyer,alone. Caswell b.1882 was the only fit for John's oldest son. Other 3 sons,William Harley b.1884,d.OKLA,Isaac Pearly b.1886,d.OKLA,Phillip Alexander b.1889,d.AZ. **Lula & Martha both died 1926,Pho,AZ. Do you have anything to doc. that Caswell is John's Bro. instead of his son? Do you have specific cause & location of John's death. My GG-mother,Lula,said he was murdered.
