Rosemary Jean Sava of Farrell, PA passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday (9-23-14) in her home after an extended illness. She was 72.

Mrs. Sava was born Feb. 26, 1942, in Hubbard, Ohio, (Trumbull County) a daughter of Nick and Rose Papp Sawaska.

She was raised in Hubbard and was a 1960 graduate of Hubbard High School.

Rosemary was an accomplished drape designer and owned and operated “Mak-O-Drape” from 1977 to 1992. She also loved sharing her knowledge as a drape designer and offered adult education and instruction for custom drapery design.

After raising her family, she returned to college and studied at Youngstown State University. Rosemary graduated magna cum laude and earned a bachelor of arts degree in graphic design with a minor in fine art painting. She enjoyed taking class with the younger students and would often say how the students made her feel like a motherly figure.

While at Youngstown State, she won the Sculpture Award at the student art show with her first class project. She was awarded a scholarship from Youngstown Federation of Women’s Clubs and Youngstown State Department Scholarship Award.

Rosemary attended Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church, Hermitage.

She always lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many activities including fine art watercolor painting, cooking, knitting for family and friends and garage sale shopping with her sister, always searching for that rare and unique item.

Rosemary enjoyed bowling and was proud to have been recognized in 1970 by the Woman’s International Bowling Congress Inc. for her high score of 234.

Her family will always cherish the quality time she spent with them, especially the creative artwork she shared with her daughter, the gardening and home improvement design with her son and the many competitive card games with her sister Betty Jane.

Rosemary had a unique ability to connect with everyone and to make them feel special. She was extremely generous with her time and sharing her artistic abilities for her friends and family and will be sadly missed.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Sava, former superintendent for Farrell Area School District.

She is survived by: a daughter, Mary Rose Feldman and her husband Adam, Wyomissing, Pa.; a son, James “Jim” Sava and his wife Denise, Athens, Ohio; three grandchildren, John G. Sava II, Jessica Feldman and Amber Grubb; a sister, Betty Jane Tiratto, Hubbard; a brother, William “Bill” Sawaska and his wife Andrea, Brookfield; a sister-in-law, Stella Rummel and her husband Al, Sharpsville; a special aunt, Mary Beach, Columbiana, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and very close girlfriends, whom she dearly loved.
