It's a strange name, isn't it? Not many people will be looking for it, but I thought I'd start a message board and see what happens.
My Sawade patriarch was Gustave Leopold Otto Sawade, who came to the U.S. probably from Silesia, probably 1850-1854, maybe earlier. He settled in St. Louis MO, had two sons, George Washington Sawade b. 1/21/1861, Alabama or St. Louis, d. 4/5/1915, Denver; and Gustave Charles Sawade, b. 8/26/1862, St. Louis, d. 4/8/1920, St. Louis. Only known surviving son was Gustave Wilhelm Sawade 1894-1955.
They were mainly carriage trimmers. The brothers were a little wild--George was disowned by his father--and they traveled a good deal--New Orleans, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Port Arthur, TX, Grand Junction and Denver, CO. George may have had a child with wife Eliz. M. Kiefer. Other names linked to the Sawades are Thelma Sloan, Caroline and August Wiese, Caroline and Frederich Busse, all of St. Louis.
The other Sawade families I have found came from Ohio, Michigan, and moved on to Colorado, California and other places out west.
This is kind of like throwing a bottle with a message into the ocean--it probably won't reach anybody, but what the heck, it's an adventure.
If anybody can tell me anything about these families, please reply.
