Joseph Sas, 87, of Elizabeth Township, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, surrounded by his family, after suffering a stroke. He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Heilwood, son of the late Charles and Anna (Savchyn) Sas. He was retired from USS National Tube as a welder and also was the former owner of Wally and Joe's Welding Shop in McKeesport. Joseph was a World War II Army veteran and he served in the 29th Infantry. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Blaho Sas; children, Patricia Sas, of North Versailles, Kevin (Jill) Sas, of Apopka, Fla., and Dr. David (Valerie) Sas, of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren, Joseph (Katie) Sas, Rebecca (Travis) Pomaibo, Lisa Sas and Steven Sas; and sister, Katherine Valerio, of White Oak. He was a member of the American Legion Post 939, Versailles, Croatian Fraternal Union No. 146 and its Pensioners, McKeesport Coin Club, the Slovenia Club of Herminie, Boston Senior Citizens, Local 1408, Catholic War Veterans, Christy Park Seniors, T&P Golf League and the North Versailles Seniors. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131, Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, Panahida services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
