I'm trying to get information on a Saracco family from Chicago.
My Uncle was Tony Saracco, his wife's name was Anne, and his son Jimmy.
Tony was an Uncle that I was unaware of until his death in 1971(?). It seems he was a son from my grandmother, Maria Salvatore and her first marriage.
I had contact with his wife Ann for many years. Ann was a very lovely women who always invited me over. She promised me gravy and carrots(yuk).
Anyway, we only talked on the phone because of the great distance between us. Ann lived in Elmwood park, IL and I in Virginia.
A few years ago, Ann died. I believe in Jan. of 2001. I was not notified but a call went to my mother. My mother being elderly didn't mention the call until months later. When I tried to call her son, I found the phone disconnected. Since he lived with Ann, I figured he moved.
Today as I was going through Obituaries, getting family junk together, I came across the name James A. Saracco, born in 1936, died 3/19/2001. I'm thinking that this is Ann and Tony Saracco's son and might be the reason the phone was disconnect.
Anyway, I know you're searching for Saracco's and I was hoping that a connection might be there.
This is what I know. Tony Saracco was born in 1915. His parent's were Maria Salvatore and (Tony?) Saracco. Maria and her husband had a large elegant wedding (1913-1915). I'm told that there were carriages and horsemen and may have been at Saint Peter's in Chicago. They had a son named Tony. They divorced and Tony lived with his mother, my grandmother. About 1922, at age 17, young Tony was thrown out of the house supposedly for getting a girl pregnant. This is funny to me because if I can read dates that would be the same year my grandmother, using her married name, Maria Saracco, was pregnant and LIVING with my grandfather, Salvatore Amico.
As the story goes, young Tony's father, believed in the vows he took and did not remarry until his wife, my grandmother died in 1935. Also, by this time she had 6 other children.
After her death, the elder Tony went on to remarry and had 7 more children. The only other information I have is one of his children's name was Rocco. And one of his kids worked with my uncle, Fred Martin, probably at Rizzo Movers.
I'm not really sure if the younger Tony's fathers first name was actually Tony but I've been told this. According to the census he would have been born in Illinois, the same as my grandmother, but the family was originally from Ricigliano in the Provincia Di Salerno.
All seem to be buried in Mt. Carmel cemetery. Any information on this family would be great appreciated.
thank you,
Sharon Amico
