LOL, I am an obsessive Copeland researcher. Hannah Copeland's father Benjamin is the younger brother of my 5xgreat-grandfather Henry Copeland. Hannah and Samuel had me stumped until recently because I had Sam's name spelled "Semple". The correct spelling eventually brought me to this board. Hannah had a sister Sarah who married William Sample, probably a brother to Samuel, and I have absolutely nothing else on that couple. Does anyone know anything about Sarah and William? Did they go to KY?
Source of marriage info from descendant Kay Staub. She found this info:
Larry J. Hoefling’s book, Chasing the Frontier: Scots-Irish in Early America (2005) – viewable from Google Books – p. 42 reports records from “The Session Book of Peaked Mountain Church, 1759, Alexander Miller, Minister." Also known as Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church. It shows:
"Married 1761" - Saml. Semple and Hannah Copeland, May 26th
"Married 1762" - Wm. Semple and Sarah Coplin, Decbr. 9th"
Note that "Sample" was spelled wrong in the records!
