trying to find information on the family of Martin Sam who lived in Iberia Parish in the 1900s. He was married twice. His wives were Marie Brown and Coralie Colet. I have reason to believe that this Martin Sam is the son of Adolphe Sam and Philomene Aubrie, free people of color who resided in Lafayette Parish before the Civil War. I found some entries relating to Martin Sam in father heberts.
Sam, Martin m. 18 July 1887 Mary Brown(NI Ct. Hse:Mar #2481)
Sam, Adolphe(Martin & Coralie Colet) b. 14 July 1888(NI Chl v5 pg40)
I also found Martin Sam enumerated in the 1900 louisiana census living in Iberia Parish, Louisiana living next to the brother of Marie Brown, Charles Brown. Also he had one son named Adolphe which might be a clue. And his age matches his age on the birth record I found.
The siblings of Adolphe Sam were Jean-Pierre Sam, Angelique Sam Jean Louis, Casimir Sam, and Don Louis Sam. All were born of free parents(Louis Sam and Babet Masse) in south louisiana before the war.
any info would be helpful in tracking down this family.
