If you'd like to contact me at kayped at rogers.com, I'll give you the excerpt of the diary I mention, and how far back I can go. I've actually just got access to Parish records and have gone back another couple of generations - but only my direct line so far. The branches are always the problem!
I was in Great Somerford a few years back doing research, and have some names and dates listed from the death register in the church there of Porters. Also photos (I think) of Porter headstones.
I put an ad in the Parish newsletter - but have never had a response! There are some Porters left in the area and have done mass letters in the mail a couple of times - but no real bite.
