I would like any information you have on James Salter born, depending upon which source is believed, between 1755 and 1760. Is this the James you have? He was in Edgefield Dist. SC and moved into Georgia about 1800. He is often with Samuel Salter, my great-great-great grandfather. Were they father/son; brothers; cousins???

I find it interesting that Salters have married Eidsons before. My husband and I thought we were the first! Both surnames are somewhat unusual.

I am interested in one John Salter who in April 1796 was a seaman of the HMS Glory, which was at Portsmouth, Hampshire at that time.
Is he one of your connections?

I think you are refering to James, not John, Salter who married Marry Hannah Eidson;

James Salter Sr. [7078]: He was born in ABT. 1786 in Edgefield, Edgefield County, South Carolina, and he died in 1849 in (GSEST. Edgefield County, South Carolina). He married Mary Hannah Eidson [7077] on BEF. 1804, and had the following children: Lemuel [7081] (GSEST. 1809), William [7084] (GSEST. 1809), Sarah [7079] (1807), James [13242] (1808), Mary [7082] (ABT. 1811), and Jackson [7080] (1815).

Hi Sylvia

The John Salter I am interested in was born 1763 Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. He married Mary Henwood 1796 Portsea, Hampshire, England. He was attached to the HMS Glory which was docked in Portsea when he married Mary.
His parents were Charles and Jane Salter of the County of Wiltshire, England.
So I guess we are not connected

Hello Greg,
I was in Edgefield last weekend and found some info on John and Benjamin Salter. In reading your entry can you tell me how you determined that Benjamin and John were Jame's brothers? The earliest Salter I can find in the Edgefield District was a John Salter who was married to a "Dorcas or "Darkes", it was spelled both ways. Do you know who James' mother was? I feel strongly that John was either James' older brother or father. Also, there are many Salters in Ward, SC. I believe that John Salter Sr. was the only Salter who remained in SC when James and the Partins migrated through Georgia to Alabama. Hope you can
help. I can share the research I have done.

Greg,

I have a James Salter b. ca 1767 married to Nancy Ann Partain/Parten, daughter of Charles Partain/Parten b. Mar 16, 1732/33 VA d. ca Jun 1812, Edgefield Dist., SC.

I have worked on these families because there are records indicating a connection to the Coursey family, which is my maternal line, all going back to very early Old Edgefield Dist, SC. They also show up in early Sheppard and Riddle research.

I would be interested in comparing information on some of the families we have researched in common. Do you have any mention of the Coursey name in your research.

Please contact me at billee@truvista.net rather than through the message board for further discussion.
