My husband's GG grandfather was Adam Saladen, b. 24 Dec 1839. The family came from the Alsace Loraine area. His parents were killed in a prairie fire on their homestead near Cincinnati, OH. Neighbors raised the four children although they were split up, Robert and Rosie being raised by one neighbor and Adam and Minnie (married a Meagle) being raised by another neighbor. Adam served in the infantry at Ft. Laramie WY - married Jane Brown Watt there on 30 Jan 1865 (marriage record shows name as Saladin - but military records show as Saladen). Jane had three children by her first marriage - Joseph A. Watt b. 8 Nov 1852, d. 8 Feb 1917(he took the Saladen name), Robert Watt b. 1854(returned to Utah) and Margaret E. Watt (Snow)(Carpenter) b. 12 Oct 1857. Then Jane and Adam had three children: John Brown Saladen married Tillie ?, Joshia Wood Saladen married Florence Myrtle Baker their daughter Hazel married a Whitaker in CA on 9 Oct 1918, and Alfred Robert Saladen b. apx. 1872 married Susie ?. If anyone knows anything about any of these Saladens I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.
