Hi,
My family name was originally Sajewitz with spellings of Sayewitz or Saiewicz. My Sajewitz family was Lutheran and was from Ost Prussia. Carl Wilhelm Sajewitz was baptised in 1846 in Gross Schmuckwalde and married Wilhelminia Bennasch/Bannasch in 1873 in a Lutheran church in Leip. 2 of their children has vaccination records from Marianburg and Marianwerder. However family story is that they were from Gorlitz which is geographically far from Osteroda county in now Poland. They settled in Scranton PA in 1883. Carl may have had a sister named Mara and a nephew named Karl in Neudorf. Their last name hard to read, maybe Klimat or Klimark or something similiar to that. Only the emmigation record and St. John's Church records pull up in searches. Family story that Carl served in the Prussian army and had been a prisoner of war. They came to the US because he did not want to be conscripted again. He had been a landlord. I located some Other Sajewitz/Lutherans in Rostock still geographically far apart. Anybody out there??? Our name was changes to Simons by my grandpa, because he got sick of people thinking he was from Bohemia.
