I'm sorry that I don't have the info you are looking for, but since you are active in your search (ie today's posting) you may beable to shead some light on the whole Saab/Sapp theory. In a previous post Ray Sapp mentioned that his last name was changed from Saab to Sapp. Yet your's remains Saab. Do you know any of the history behind the surname. I've also got some info on a group of 4 Sapps that I've not been able to place in our geneology and if Ray is correct perhaps they were really Saab's and belong in your family. Their names were Hanna, Said, Ali, and Joseph C.Sapp.

Our family also has a history of changing from Saab to Sappe . The story is told that the name was changed when my grandfather, Taylor F. Saab (Hazleton, Pennsylvania) arrived in the United States - his name was changed by error or just "Americanized".

I've done some digging with the census and according to several census from what I understand my grandfather Peter Deeb was related to Taylor Sappe through marriage. My grandfather's sister, Sarah was Taylor's first wife. I don't have my notes in front of me at the moment but I will dig them out and write back on what I have found. Taylor Sappe was my father's godfather. My father grew up in Hazleton, PA and spoke often of Taylor's son George and his daughter Gracie.

Taylor Sappe was my grandfather. George and Gracie were my uncle and aunt. They have both passed on. Another of my aunts has transcribed a taped autobiography by Taylor and has published a book of it. Sarah and Peter both are mentioned in this book. He describes Peter as the one who first told him about Hazleton. Taylor (Pop, as we called him) mentions his daughter Emiline (later to become Emiine Saba), and infant son, Ferris, who passed away 30 days after Sarah. He describes her passing in the hospital from complications (a stomach tumor)during birth. He mentions that he was 14 and Sarah was 35 when they met.. it does not detail the date of the marriage. What is your father's name?

That autobiography sounds like it would be very interesting. Alright here goes, my father's name was Frank, he passed away in 2002. He always told a story about on the day of Dad's christening it snowed so much that Taylor had to shovel a path to the church so Dad could be baptized. He loved telling that story. This is what I found in the census: 1910 census had Taylor's last name spelled Saam and they had him coming from Turkey/Syria. His wife's name was Sarah. For this census Taylor was 22 and Sarah was 35. I'm guessing Sarah had been married before because there were two sons. One was Wady Michaz,16 and George Michaz 10. They have Taylor and Sarah having come to America in 1900 with George, who was born that year. Sarah's brother Peter Dieb didn't come over until 1903 and he brought Wady with him. Taylor and Sarah had a daugher, Emilia who was 3 month in 1910 and Peter was living with them for this census. 1920 census: Sarah was no longer on this census, Taylor was now married to Mamie Brice (Brico), whose family was from Italy. Now Taylor's last name was spelled Sapp. Taylor was now 30 and Mamie was 23. They listed a 9 year old daughter, Emmalina (who must be Emilia, Sarah & Taylor's daughter) as Taylor and Mamie's daughter. There was also Julia 3 and Ferris 1 1/2. Peter Dieb was no longer living with them and Peter's last name was now spelled Deeb. 1930 census: Taylor and Mamie's family were now living with Mamie's family. Father, Nicola Brice (Brioc) his wife Theresa and Mamie's brother, Michael. Taylor and Mamie's family now included Julia, Ferris, George, Grace, Estella, Anna and Mary. Emilia was no longer on this census. Taylor's last name was still spelled Sapp. But in the 1938 Hazleton High School (Janus) year book, George's last name was spelled Sappe. My mother graduated with George. Our grandfathers must have stayed very close because my father always referred to your aunts and uncles as his "cousins". I hope this was interesting for you. I found it very interesting reading about people that I had heard about from my father through out the years

Just want to add one more thing that I just uncovered while going through paperwork from my parents estate. On my father's certificate of Baptism from the Holy Rosary Church in Hazleton, PA, they have Taylor's last name spelled Saph. Just one more different spelling. The godmother's name was Mildred Yamona.

That's a spelling I have not come across yet! If you are willing to scan a copy & post it online that would be great. If you don't want to post it, I'd love to get a copy - pls. contact me offline at d j h 6 2 AT h o t m a i l DOT com . The book I was referencing earlier, re: Taylor Sappe's autobiography can be purchased on Amazon.com . The title is "The Boy From Beirut and Other Short Stories" by Mary Ann Laser (Taylor's daughter). There is another book titled "The Boy From Beirut and Other Stories" by Robin Maugham - which is NOT the correct book - make sure you look up the one from author Mary Ann Laser. The cover has a photograph of Taylor Sappe. Here is a link that you can copy & paste into your browser. http://www.amazon.com/Boy-Beirut-Other-Short-Stories/dp/1403...

I will be happy to get a copy to you. I'm kind of computer challenged as far as scanning things and sending by email. But I don't mind getting a copy to you. Thank you so much for letting me know about where to get a copy of the autobiograpy! Have you been to the military section for this site. There's a copy of Taylor's registration card and it has his name, address, telephone #, employment, his signature and a discription of himself as far as height, weight and complexion. Very interesting to see! If you haven't seen it you really need to. I will contact you offline about the copy you're interested in. Again, thank you for your information.
