Yardley, PA. — Sister Veronica
Rynne, GNSH, 90, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in St. Joseph's Infirmary at the
Grey Nuns Motherhouse,
Yardley, Pa., in the in the 69th year of her religious life.
Sister Veronica was born on Dec. 18, 1910, in
Lowell, Mass., to Peter Joseph
Rynne and Anna T. (Maguire)
Rynne.
Having graduated from Immaculate
Conception Elementary School in 1924 and Immaculate
Conception High School in 1928, she began her college education with a business course at
Burdett College in
Boston, Mass., graduating from there in 1931. Sister entered the
Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart on Aug. 14, 1932. She pronounced her First Vows on July 16, 1935, and her Final Vows on Aug. 24, 1938. In 1948, Sister completed her bachelor of science degree in commerce and education at D'Youville
College in
Buffalo.
Sister Veronica taught the freshman and senior high students at St. Mary's Academy in Odgensburg, from 1944 to 1945. Her other fields of labor included Mahanoy City,
Elkins Park and
Yardley, Pa.;
Buffalo,
Jackson Heights and
Corona, N.Y.; and her hometown of
Lowell, Mass.
After 56 years of teaching, Sister assumed the responsibilities of the business and finance office at
Grey Nun Academy in 1968. She worked there until 1978, and then in similar positions within the congregation until her retirement at the Motherhouse in 1988. Sister volunteered her services at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, N.J. from 1989 to 1991.
In addition to her religious family, Sister is survived by her sister, Mrs. Ann
Markham of
Lowell, Mass.
She is predeceased by her sisters, Alice
Rynne, Catherine
Rynne, Esther
Rynne and Christine
Nelligan, and several brothers and sisters who died in infancy.
The prayer service Wednesday, March 7, 2001, and the liturgy of Christian burial at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, will be in Sacred Heart
Chapel,
Grey Nuns Motherhouse,
Yardley, Pa.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery,
Philadelphia, Pa.
