Ryba family from Poland

Ryba family from Poland

Surnames: Ryba, Grzebien, Sosnowski
I am looking for any information regarding the following people and would appreciate any help you could give me:

John Walter Ryba, (born 1879, possibly in Lubcza, Pilzno, Poland, died in 1957, Chicago), married to Mary Katherine Grzebien (born 1884? in Galicia? Poland, died in 1971, California). John's father's name may have been Valintine.

US Census records show John as sometimes coming from "Poland" and other times as from “Austrian Poland”, and Mary is listed as from “Galicia Austria”, “Galicia Poland”, and just “Poland”. John and Mary had about 9 children (based on family history), 5 who reached adulthood - Walter, Cecilia (Sr. Mary Anilla), Helen or Ellen (Sr. Ellen/Gerardia), John Walter, and Mary.

Mary Katherine Grzebien's parents were John Grzebien (possibly in the military and according to family history died in a railroad accident in Poland), married to Marianna Sosnowski. John may have come from Wies Pisarowcsze Gnieworz, Mala Polska (apologies if I have mangled the Polish language or geography). Neither John or Marianna immigrated to the US and may have had a son named Stanislaw.

Thanks, Nancy

Hi my grandma's maiden name is Ryba. I was told that she was of Polish/Austrian decent. She is the second youngest of around 10 or 11 kids. I think she has one brother.

Hi Dawn,

Can you give a little more information about your grandmother? What is her name, where is she from, etc?

Thanks, Nancy

My great-grandfather is Joseph Ryba and supposedly he is from the same area as your family, Galicia, Poland.

Read about your searches and it seems that the two are father and son. Joseph is john's father. I came across a family's website the other day that will give each of you a great deal of info you're both searching for.

Walter Ryba was my great-grandfather. This site has provided me with the most information yet.
