I just obtained (within the last week) a death certificate from New York state for a Joseph Ryant.
He died 4 Dec 1890 in Danby, Tompkins Cty, NY, ae 73y 10m, so born abt Jan/Feb 1817,
also in Danby (but in 1817 Danby would have been part of Tioga Cty).

Father's name: Daniel Ryant
Mother's name: Lydia Lord
(parents birthplace both blank)

information supplied by Susie C. Cummings, of Danby, his daughter.

Buried in Ryant Burial Ground, Danby

I can send you a copy (scanned image) if you like.

My connection? My gt-gndfather, Charles Emery, married a Della Ryant, possibly daughter
or gnd-daughter of Joseph. I find Charles, Della (Ryant) Emery, and Polly Ryant (wife of Joseph,
I suspect) all living together in Danby, NY in one or more censuses, and all three
are buried in the West Danby Baptist Church cemetery.

Several problems, though:
1. I haven't found Joseph, Polly & Della living together in any census.
2. Della (?Ryant) Emery's death certificate gives her father's name as Joseph ?Volker
(very faint & difficult to read, but definitely not Ryant)
3. Charles & Della Emery had a son, Benjamin Franklin Emery, my gt-gndfather.
His death cert. gives Della's maiden name as RYAN, ie. no T. I have found RYAN's and RYANT's
in census schedules, and don't know how, or even if, they are related.

Would appreciate any information you have that might clarify matters.

TIA,
Charlie Mulks

PS: another connection, maybe - my gndfather, Clyde Chilson
was born in Bradford Cty, PA - don't quite know what to make of that.

Ransom (Ryant) was my great grandfather. His son, Byron was my grandfather. James Ryant, I think, was a brother of Ransom. Daniel was a blacksmith in Spencer and I am sure related..

My family is also from the Danby area. My great gf was Ransom, married to Sylvia Lynette Swartout, and my grandfather was Byron. There was a Daniel and a James Ryant with them around the same time but not sure how they are related. Can't find where Ransom or Byron are buried. I don't have a list of those buried at the Ryant Cemetery in Danby. Any connection to your Ryants?...must be. Mike

In response to your posting regarding Joseph Ryant, it was very helpful information for me, and if it helps at all, there is a Chilson/Ryant connection in our family tree. My gg grandpa Byron Ryant married a Caroline Hulbert, who's mothers maiden name was Chilson. Polly was indeed the second wife of Joseph. I have not run into anything on a Della Ryant in my tree yet so far. Good luck!
