The RYAN connection for me is through the maternal side of the family, (Agnes Mary RYAN) and I have to admit, I have not yet applied for any DNA scanning. I am male, but I'm not sure which test(s) I should pursue. The family was concentrated around the Rockford, Illinois area of the country. Mom only had two children (my brother, and myself), and my bro is not a Genealogy follower. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome ........

To get the results if they are on your mother's side you would want to do the mitochondiral DNA test which I believe is the mtDNA. The YDNA would give your father's side. I did the autosomal and that can show up either side within a certain amount of generations and the link would be the common ancestor which would link you to someone, I believe up to 8 to 10 generations where you both have a most recent common ancestor. Good luck.

There is so much to learn about DNA testing and I am learning a little at a time over time.
