It has been 15 years since you posted this inquiry, but I still wanted to reply and hope you are still active in your genealogy. I just started studying the Rutledge family because a relative of mine, Diantha Eastman, married William R. Rutledge on 16 Dec 1836 in Jennings IN. Both of them had been married before, but Diantha didn't have any children with her first husband. She and William Rutledge had Cicero in 1838-IN; Adrian/Adrain in 1843-IN; Justus in 1846-MO; and Jerald in 1848-MO. Then it appears that Diantha died before 1850. I found no further record for Cicero, but I found Adrian/Adrain, Justus, and Jerald in TX. They had gravitated to their uncles Dr. Buel Eastman and Edward "Darwin" Eastman. So if your Thomas Jerrel Rutledge was born in 1851, then William R. Rutledge must have married again after Diantha died. I would love to exchange information.

I was wondering if anyone has information on Alexander Gibboney of Donacavey, Fintona in Co Tyrone? I have a reference to him in Griffith's Valuation as well as to an Alexander Gibney/Gibboney and Jane Campbell as parents of Alexander Gibney b. 1810 who emigrated to Australia. Possible connection to James, Robert, Hugh and Eliza Gibney who all emigrated to Ontario. The Gibney's were Church of Ireland. Does anyone know if the records for the Donacavey CI in Fintona are available locally, or only through PRONI?

I just obtained this book from the NSDAR Library, they were selling some duplicates and sent the NC books to the NC state DAR organization to sell. Although there are a number of families mentioned in this book, unfortunately these is no index. Do you know which community William Rutledge lived in as most of the book is organized by the communities. Also there are sections that deal with the physicians and other important people who started businesses, etc.

Try searching for Fermanagh Gold Genealogy. This site has been there for many years. There are lots of postings by Ruth Gregson (she helped me figure out all the relationships before she died). The Rutledges did indeed marry Thompsons. My gg married Dorothea Thompson(born circa 1807). Edward Rutledge (her husband) was born about 1798. Rutledge was from Sheetrim and Thompsons from around Maguiresbridge and Thompsonsbridge. Hope this helps
Regards
Myrna Mackey(Rutledge)
p.s. Ruth was a direct descendant of the Graham family and her grandfather was David Rutledge from Sheetrim.

The logical place to look is County Fermanagh, N. Ireland. My great great grandparents were Edward Rutledge and Dorothea Thompson. They were from Sheetrim (townland in Kinawley parish) All of these families are interconnected. Most of them came from Knockninny and Callow Hill. Try the website www.fermanaghgold. for more info. You should be able to find a lot of sources.
Regards
Myrna Mackey plcgs

I would go to the births, marriages ,deaths, for Ontario on Ancestry.ca and the Mawhinney records should be there. Also try the 1851 census return for Ontario and they should be somewhere near Huron County. Automated genealogy has the 1851 census online.
Myrna Mackey
plcgs

Thank you, Myrna. I will have a look. To clarify, I might start with James Mawhinney born abt 1796, who died 1861 in Ontario and married Elizabeth Whitcroft. However I am not sure he was the father of Isaiah born 1830 Ontario who died 1913 in Victoria B.C. and whose son was James born 1851 who died 1928 in Vancouver. James remarried as a widower. First wife was Elizabeth Ann Fischer who died about 1919 although I do not have the actual date and I am not sure where she died. There were five daughters, and I am seeking information about Mary Jane (Bell) for our tree. Another daughter of this couple was Lillian May Mawhinney, who lived 1883 to 1932 in Saskatchewan. Interested in where this Mawhinney line came from in Ireland, and the type of background in Ireland. For some time we have believed they were originally Scottish.

Go to the website for Province of Manitoba Vital Stats Genealogy and there is a James Mawhinney born in Holland at the beginning of the 1900s. Then go to British Columbia Archives Genealogy and his vital records should be there. They are online until about 1994. Good Luck
Myrna Mackey plcgs

Elledge and Lavender family story from 1876 and a Message for Keith Rutledge regarding his post from 20 Nov 2000

Keith Rutledge posted this message on 20 Nov 2000 in this Rutledge Message Board:

"From: KEYVANOR@aol.com
Subject: [RUTLEDGE] Being buried back home
Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000 11:08:05 EST

Jan Roggy,
By 1855 the railroad systems east of the Mississippi were traversing most
states. It wasn't unusual to take a coffin, put into a pine crate, and ship
it on the railroad to be buried back home. In 1876 my ggrandmother Elledge
ne. Harlow died at age 42 of measles. She ask to be buried back home in
Illinois. It was in the early winter. They lived in Montgomery Co. Kansas
near the Oklahoma border, and somehow her request was granted. The family
had wagons and carried supplies back and forth in the Indian Territories.
Perhaps they took her back on a wagon. The story was that ggrandfather came
back on horseback and was caught in a sleet storm so that by the time he got
to Kansas, he had pneumonia and died, too. He was buried in Kansas. A
family named Lavender took care of the youngest boy, 3 years old, but by the
time ggrandfather was back home, the Lavenders had moved away and taken the
child with them. The older children, who were on their own by then , tried
to track down the Lavenders but never recovered their little brother. Hope
he had a good life.
Keith" (end post)

I have a family story that could possibly be the other side to this story. I would like to contact Keith about the Elledge (Eldridge) families.
Elizabeth Rutledge married Mawhinney in Stratford. They came to Manitoba about 1873. They had a homestead in the West Prospect area in the early 1870s. My great Grandfather came to Manitoba circa 1873.He and his family also lived in West Prospect on a homestead as well. They were about three miles north of Portage la Prairie. Then they moved to Holland, Manitoba and farmed there until the early 1900s.Elizabeth took Dorothea to live with them as well. Dorothea died in August 1895 and is buried in the huge Mawhinney plot in Holland, Manitoba (she has stone made of green jade. They then moved to British Columbia and farmed in fruit country and then retired to Victoria.
They both died in Victoria and are buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.
Christopher and his second wife Elizabeth came to Winnipeg circa 1873 and Christopher worked as a teamster for the railway. He died tragically in Nov. 1877 and was buried in Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery in Winnipeg. Elizabeth opened a boarding house on Water Street. She died in 1928 and is buried in St. Johns Cemetery in Winnipeg. The death certificate says she was 92 but in reality she was 82 years old.
Hope This helps. I grew up north of Portage la Prairie and am very familiar with the area and have been to the cemetery in Holland as well.
Myrna Mackey plcgs

Cole vs Rutledge yDNA

My name is Randy Cole and I live in Alberta, Canada. Some time ago I obtained results of my 37 marker yDNA test. Surprisingly I show no close affiliation with any Cole male who has been tested anywhere in the world. Even more surprisingly, I find there is somewhat of a (reasonably close) relationship to a Rutledge family who came to the United States in the 18th century. I can trace my Cole line back to 1698 where my 5th great grandfather, Phillip Cole, and his wife Mary Hadley raised their family in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. Prior to that date nothing can be firmly established as to Phillip's ancestry. Can someone from the Rutledge clan in the British Isles shed any light on my ancestry?

I am very interested in the record you have for a James M Rutledge marriage. James Mayes Rutledge is my 4th gr grandfather, According to an SAR Membership Application his marriage to Sarah (Richardson) Smith was 21 September 1820. However I have searched for many years and have never been able to find any other record of it. I have only one marriage of James McGrady Rutledge (1st cousin to James Mayes) to Margaret Cook Harris on 19 Aug 1841 in Jacksonville, Morgan Co., Illinois. I have a David Machlin Rutledge (no dates) as the son of William & Susannah (Cameron) Rutledge, Making him also a first cousin to James Mayes Rutledge. I have no source recorded for that information, which means it came from my very early days of research, long ago, and I found it on someone else's tree. (Which means the information is very nearly useless.) I have no record of a David McLin at all, however, my Rutledge clan did migrate from Georgia to Henderson Co, KY, to Illinois. Would you be willing to share your marriage records for James M Rutledge with me?
Nora

Do you have any idea what Levi and Florence Rutledge were doing in the Phoenix area when Ellis was born there in 1926? Levi and Florence were living in rural Phoenix in 1925, but before and after that they were living in SW Kansas, so that was quite a jump - out to Phoenix and then back again…. I'm a retired professor doing research on the residents of Westola Township, Morton County, Kansas, in 1930, and where these people lived before coming to Westola and where they went after they left Westola…. Thanks!
Marshall E. Bowen
Distinguished Professor of Geography
University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

My great grandma was a rutledge lived in Walker co. I heard they'd lived in Tishomingo Mississippi for a little while. But they weren't from Mississippi. Wonder if all rutledge in Walker County are related?
Joseph Rutledge Sr b 1749 Rowan NC - son of John Rutledge (b 1711 Bucks, PA) & Elenor Jane Caldwell?

I am looking for proof that the above Joseph is the son of the above John. I know that this is rather accepted information via trees here on Ancestry. I have read the will of John filed in Rowan, NC and he mentions his son Joseph and I know my Joseph was married in Rowan in 1772 and later migrated to KY. Does anyone have any source which verifies Joseph Sr KY is the son of John PA?
