Here are my RUTHERFORDs:

Robert RUTHERFORD m. Isabella BLACK. Isabella's dates of birth & death may have been 1769-1847. Robert was a farmer & miller at Ferniehirst Mill, Jedburgh. Their known children were:

Helen RUTHERFORD, b. abt 1790, Jedburgh, Roxborough, Scotland, probably unmarried.

Janet RUTHERFORD, abt 1801- 1867 Jedburgh, unmarried.

William RUTHERFORD 1803-1881, Jedburgh, Roxborough, Scotland. farmer & miller at Ferniehirst Mill. His obituary says that the mill was said to be tenanted by the Rutherford family from the Marquis of Lothian for nearly 200 years.

William RUTHERFORD married Margaret RAE (abt 1809-1847), abt July 25 1834.

Their children were:
1.Robert, RUTHERFORD (abt 1835-1838)
2.Andrew, RUTHERFORD b. 1837
3.Henry RUTHERFORD (1838-1916) (my great grandfather)
4.Isabella RUTHERFORD b. 1840
5.James RUTHERFORD b. 1843. James married Isabella HOOD.b. 1849, Ancrum. Their children were a) William Rae RUTHERFORD, 1877, Kersheugh, Jedburgh, b) John Hood RUTHERFORD, 1878, Gatehousecote, Hobkirk, Roxburgh, c) Cecilia Richardson RUTHERFORD, 1880, Gatehousecote etc. d) Henry James RUTHERFORD, 1883, Gatehouscote etc.
e) Charles RUTHERFORD, abt 1885, Ancrum, Roxburgh, Scotland, f) Robert RUTHERFORD abt 1887, Ancrum etc.
6.Janet b. 1845

All of William & Margaret's children were born in Jedburgh, Roxburgh, Scotland except the first Robert, who was born in Ancrum.

I understand that one branch of the family ended up in Australia, but don't know which one. Another was said to have move to Newcastle.

Does any of this ring any bells? Does anyone have any more information?
