I have a Maria Glac from Podgora 33 married to Johann Babic in my family tree. My mother, Mary Babic was daughter of Anton Babic and Justina (no record of her father but her name has been listed as Frej and also Jamnik and I was told by a relative that her father was a Hren). I've visited Podgora a number of times. Could we be related?

Mary Pluth

Do you know where John Glac and Ana Znidarsic were born? My great grandparents were from Zagorica Slovenia. I do have
distant relatives with the last name of Znidarsic. This would be my great-grandmother's side of the family. The name Znidarsic is still found in the Dobropolje Valley region of Slovenia where Zagorica located. I have done extensive research, but since my family lineage is so distant with the Znidarsic name, I have not focused on that name.

I cannot help too much other than to tell you that there is a village of Kompolje in Slovenia. It is near Videm, in the Dobropolje Valley, just east and south of Ljubljana. My gelealogy traces to that valley, my great grandparents were born in Zagorica, just a few miles from Kompolje.
My Jan Glac was born in 1878. He came to the USA in 1898 or so. He was married to the former Ana Znidarsic by 1899. They were in Cleveland for a while but by the time that marriage ended John was found in Minnesota with a new wife Anna Dorsek. I am descended from one of his sons by Ana Znidarsic. Does anyone on here know what happened to her? Did she die or was there a divorce?

If you ever check this site, I think I have information concerning Johan Glac and his first wife. I am not related but have coincidentally pieced some information on this from the archive pages from Slovenia on my own family. There is a Johan Glac and Ana Babic (married)listed as godparents to a distant relation of mine. I believe this was the 1890's. I did not write the year on my notes. The Dobropolje valley in Slovenia was and still is comprised of 7 close villages. My relatives are from Zagorica. The Glac family could be from any one of the close villages. It was a rather tight knit community. I looked for Johan Glac on Ellis Island records and found Johan from Podgora who came in Nov 1920. This is one village in the valley.

We are cousins! My grandfather Frank Glatch was one of the 3 children that John Glatch had with his first wife, Anna Znidarsic. All 3 of his children were born in Cleveland Oh.I had always assumed that Anna died after she went back to the old country when she became ill but I think now she must have been alive when John married his second wife. Do you know? John the second was his oldest son. He went back to Slovenia probably when Anna did. The second son Louis(Alojz) and Frank went back and forth. I found a passenger list that shows them coming back from Europe at ages 19 and 21 in 1922. Their residence was listed as Minnesota so they must have been living there at that time. Do you know when John went to Minnesota? Anyway he was naturalized there and the papers show he had 9 children with his second wife whose last name I do not know. When my dad was alive he did some research so I have a few things but there isn't a lot on this family. I hope this is some help.

A.

Greetings!
I have just started looking in to the Glatch family history on behalf of my son, who will be working on a family tree school project soon. My paternal grandfather was Joseph Glatch, Gilbert, MN., and his father was John Glatch or Glach, born August 5, 1879. If I am getting the story straight, John had a first wife, name not known to me, and either 2 or 3 children when he departed Yugoslavia. He left out of Braman, Germany and arrived in the port of Baltimore on the date September 11, unknown year. At some point, this first marriage ended and he married Ann, who became the mother of Joseph and about 7 other children. I believe that one of John Glatch's children with his first wife settled near Milwaukee,WI and one in Ely, MN. Some of John and Ann's other children are named Ed Glatch, Ann Arko, Tony Glatch, to name a few.

I'm researching my daughter-in-law's Rutar and Struna families from Slovenia. Her grandmother Justina Rutar was born in Whitney, PA, about 1898 , she was soon taken back to Slovenia. She returned to the US at age 23 arriving in NY on the ship Rochambeau, April 6, 1921. On Ellis Island records she was going to her uncle Frank Frlep in Ely, MN.
She later married Anton Struna in MN. She died in 1937.
She gave her home address as Kemgolge, Slovenia...seems that no one has ever found a place with that name...spelling must be incorrect!

Just a quick reply. I think that my GGF, John Rutar d. Abt. 1886, was the 2nd husband of a lady named Mary Glatch. She supposedly had 2 brothers Joseph and Frank and their Father was possibly named Ignatious Glatch. He owned and operated a Blacksmith Shop in the Pittsberg area.

All of the above has been passed to me from the memories of one or more friends in agreement with each other.
Hi to hopefully Rutar decendents:

Where to begin. Briefly, the Rutar Family at the turn of the century involved the following names; Rutar, Glatch, Cimoncic, Kraker, Grill, Hummel and Ehigh.

Grill is my father's mother and I have loads on her since she is tracable back into a small community called Gottschee in old Austria. Rutar, my grandfather, comes thru a town called Zuzemberk in Slovenia. Gottschee is now called Kocevje in the current Slovenia.

That is all I have on the Rutar's, but they were big time in the immigration of the Slovenes to Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I hope someone can help me get the ball rolling in this forum. I have over 200 Rutar decendents here in America to share with you.

Ron.

.
