Hi Yvonne, I had trouble with this branch until recently. Here is some of what I have:

Daniel D. Rutan (1805-1851) m Maria Aclerman b 1801; he died in NJ she d in KS; he was the son of
Daniel Rutan (1765-1820) an dJannitje Brower (1762-1858) of Bergen Co. NJ; Daniel was the son of
John Rutan (1725-1782) and Aaltje P. Van Horn of Bergen Co. John the son of
Daniel Rutan b 1683 and Antje Hanse Speir
and this Daniel was the son of Abraham Rutan (1658-1713) the first Rutans in America who settled in New Paltz NY in 1675 and New Barbadoes, Bergen Co. NJ in 1699.

I have a lot of info on suceeding generations. E-mail me directly with your mail address and I will send you out a care package. Jim Keegan diggerjjk@aol.com

I would appreciate any info on Abraham and Rynier Rutan who I think came from Passaic Co. NJ. According to census from Massachusetts and Connecticut they were born in NJ. Also if I can be of help to you on Rutans' let me know.

I have two Rynier Rutans but am unsure of their relationship to each other.
Rynier Speer Rutan b 1806 son of Paul Rutan and Margie Speer of Bloomfield,Essex Co. NJ m Catherine ____; living in Hartford CT in 1840 and Springfield MA in 1850; he waws a silversmith.
Rynier S. Rutan (1839-1908) s/o Abraham George Rutan and Mary Hicks of Brimfield MA a CW soldier, 34th MA Infantry; a shoemaker who later lived in the NYC area. (I have more on him)

Abraham George Rutan (or George Abraham) d 1873 of Paterson NJ m (1) Harriet Hinsman (2) Harriet Hicks at Ludlow MA, parents of Rynier; they moved to Brown Co.,OH.

I would be happy to exchange further information. Jim Keegan

According to Ancestry World Tree Viewer they have the older Rynier Speer Rutan as the father of Rynier S. Rutan. This is on their pedigree chart. So at this point I'm confused. If I might inquire what source was your information from. Also you stated that Abraham George Rutan m. Harriet Hinsman. This is correct but, my research shows the name as Hinman (no 's'). Thank you for your response.

Tom, I think I got Rynier's parents as Abraham George Rutan and Mary Hicks from Brimfield MA vital records. Rynier m (1) Adeline M. Griggs of Woodstock CT in 1857 m (2) Phoebe Alam Laird Patterson (1838-1917)and they lived in Brooklyn NY. I got info on him from the 1850 census; Brooklyn City Directories and his Civil War pension file. He also was a shoemaker and a railroad conductor. Adelaid, from whom he was divorced wound up in Rochester NY and Alma who was from Cincinatti died in St. Louis and is bur in Goshen Ohio. They moved a lot.

I also got info from the LDS IGI.

Hope this doesn't confuse matters. Jim Keegan

I pulled out my copy of Rynier's CW pension file. His marriage certificate 28 Apr 1890 wherein he married Phoebe A. Laird at Jersey City lists his father as Abraham Rutan and his mother as Mary A. Hinman (If you look quickly it appears to be Hinsman). Rynier's death certificate also in the file from NYC shows his father as George. I have other records that support a contention that Abrham George or George Abraham Rutan was his father. Rynier was 5'7" with blie eyes and dark hair.

I may have called Harriet Hinman Mary in an earlier message. Abraham was married to Harriet Hicks shortly after the death of his first wife Harriet Hinman.

At one point I thought that Rynier Speer Rutan was the father of our Rynier but am more inclined to guess they were cousins. Paul Rutan, the father of Rynier Speer Rutan moved from NJ to Hartford then Springfield MA. Since this is the only branch of the Rutans who moved that way it is probable that Abraham George and Rynier were closely related. Jim Keegan

Thank you for respoding again. I've sent away for Rynier's CW file In my research it appears to me that Harriet Hinman died in child birth with Rynier in Oct. 14, 1837. The 1850 census in MA stated his age at 13yrs. This would make his birth at 1837. Glad to hear that you confirmed his mother was harriet Hinman and not Harriet Hicks. Also my cousins have told me that Rynier was buried in Massachusetts. I'm assuming in Brimfield.
