Dear Eugenia,
No, I have not come across any Ruarks spelled the way you have. We have had Rewark and several odd ways from the possibly original O'Rourke and several feel Rooks and Rorks came from them. My Timothy Ruark is earliest sited in Caswell County, North Carolina in the 1790's. His two sons later on in life (in Pulaski Co, KY,) are listed as having been born in Maryland. There may be others on the Various Ruark boards that have some South Carolina connection! Sorry. Marvel

Hi,
My mother was a Ruark from Vanceburg,Ky in Lewis County. Her father was from that area. His name was Raymond Lee Ruark. His father was Robert Lee Ruark. The seems to be the main area in my locale for the most Ruarks. I would be interested in any and all information. My passed away in October and I feel a link to my past is gone.

Your Ruark line is probably out of Md and Va. I do not research the Ruarks since my connection was through a stepmother- Martha Ann Ruark, daughter of Elgale Ruark.

To find the generation back from Robert Lee Ruark, you should get a copy of his death certificate which will have his parents listed. From there you can begin searching census records.

In my family lines, the Ruarks married into the Esham and Cropper families. This began in the late 1600s in Northampton Co. VA. Later the families all moved over into Worcester Co. Md. From Maryland the same families moved together to Lewis Co. KY. My research indicates the Ruarks were in KY by 1810, maybe a little before.

This is about all I can tell you until you know the name of Robert Ruark's father. Also, when researching, remember the name was also spelled Ruke, Rook, and Roark.

Happy hunting.

Hello Ron,

I know it has been 14 years since you posted the information on here. I am also a Decedent of of Jordan Ruark/Anna Pollitt (his 2nd wife). Jordan's son Benjamin F Ruark Birth 2/1826 in Lewis County, Kentucky and Death 1900 in Parson, KS would be my Great-Great-Great Grandfather. Benjamin actually change his last name to Franklin in 1864 when he took his family and deserted the Union Army in Kentucky to Indiana. I had hit a brick wall in my search until I realized what Benjamin F Ruark had done. He and his wife Malissa A Jackson and several of their children show up in the 1860 census in Lewis County, Kentucky and show back up again in the 1870 under the Franklin name in Indiana. My Great-Great Grandfather Joseph Milton Franklin was one of their children in born 4/24/1867 in Liberty, IN and died 6/10/1959 in Wichita, KS. He was married to Della Mae Hamsher born 6/1/1879 in Largo TWP, IN and died 6/15/1959 in Wichita, KS. Their daughter Ethel Ann Rogers/Jessup (born Franklin) was my Great-Grandmother born 11/30/1898 in Parson, KS and died 4/1/1968 in Spokane, WA.

I am also in Spokane,
