I have a great grandmother named Bridget Ruane, whose family came from Ballina, Mayo. She came to New York in 1905 when she was 19. She had two sisters, Kate Conlin and Anna Cunningham, who may have settled in New Jersey. She had towhead hair and was short. I would love to find cousins. Any other Ruanes from Ballina?

My great grandmother was Mary Jordan, born on the 17th of March, 1889 to parents Joseph Jordan and Anne Rouane, in Carrareagh, Bonniconlon, Ballina, County Mayo.
Much of the church parish records spell it Ruane, however, some do spell it Rouane. I believe there are still some Ruane families living in Carrareagh now according to the Eire phone book. I have sent letters to the Ruanes and Jordans and they will not respond. I may surprise them with a visit when I am in Ireland this spring.
Do you think there is any relationship between your Ruane ancestors and mine?
Thanks, Ed Modestino

Hi, noticed that you're looking for Ruanes from Ballina Co Mayo. My paternal grandmother was Mary Josephine Ruane, born 1911 and left Ireland in about 1930 ish. She married a Henry Lawrence Hart.
Her father was Michael Ruane (no dob but prob 1880's) and mother was (Mary?) Ellen Lavelle - also both of Co Mayo. We think they had at least two children - my grandmother and Vincent . Again no DoB's.

Hi, I also noticed you are related to Ruanes. My greatgrandfather Patrick was born in Ballina in 1891. He moved to Ohio. Perhaps there is a relation there. Have you found a Judge link?? Good luck, Bridget

Bridget, found your post re:Ruane/Judge. My grandmother Maria Murphy (Quinn) mother was a "Judge". My grandmother lived in Ballina, County Mayo in a section now known as Braffey(sic). She had sisters, Kate (Fallon), Margaret (Maggie), Beatrice (Bea)(Walsh), Nell (lived in Scranton married a Taggert), Agnes (Dougherty). Not sure when they came over but were all in domestic service. I am working on my husband's genealogy and haven't had time to do my maternal side. I do have pictures though and some family info. The farm is still there and my cousin Jim lives on one section, a nephew(?) Matthew on one part and he now holds ownership rights. Any names ring a bell? By the way, there are Ruane's in Crossmalina too.

Hello Again,
My G Grandfather Patrick Ruane's mother was Judge. The brief info I have is that he was from Ballina, Co. Mayo. He married my G Grandma Bridget Conroy in 1914. They lived in Ohio. Bridget Conroy had like 11 siblings. Her sisters married into the Hart family as well as the Carrigan family. I appreciate all the help. Maybe this will help someone else too.
Thanks and have good luck searching, Bridget

I've gotten some more info. Bridget's parents were James and Mary. I am not clear as to how to pronounce Ruane. Some people say it like Rowan and some say it like Ruin. We always said it like Rowan. Then I found out a friend of mine at my old job, her grandmother's maiden name was Ruane too (Tipperary, btw) and she said it like Roo-wayne.

Not sure if you have seen the Irish American Times posting by Bridget Ruane Jordan from Dunmore in 1854 looking for her brother John from Bonniconlon Ballina Mayo. John may have been in a hospital in Fall River Mass at the time. Bridget was married to a William Jordan.
