While surfing the web, I found your site. My sister is named Noel and my grandfather came from Bonniconlon, Mayo in SDeptember, 1914. He moved to Scranton, PA, USA and then to New jersey. We are looking for any relatives in Ireland. My grandfather was James Joseph Ruane of Bonniconmlon, His brother s were John, Owen and Martin, and his sisters were Margaret, Anna. All came to the States except Martin and Owen. We have visited the family area near Ballina, on the road to Carrareigh, and met Martin and his family in 1977 and 1980. Martin has passed away. Looking for any relative who still lives in the area. Anna married a JUdge from that area, in Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. Margaret married a man named Murray and moved to California.

My maternal great grandmother was named Bridget Ruane. She was short and had towhead hair. Her siblings were named, Catherine, Mary, Annie, Margaret, Patrick and Jim Ruane. Their parents were named James Ruane and Mary Foody. They were all born in Bonniconlon in the 1880s and 1890s.

My great grandmother came to New York in April of 1904. She married Edward Burke, from Balisodare, Sligo. They lived on the upper west side of New York City and had 4 children-Jack, Edward,(my grandfather) Marion and Hubert Burke. Bridget's sisters Catherine Carlon and Annie Cunningham lived in Brooklyn, NY. I don't think I met them, but I met their children once-such nice people!
I would love to find the rest of my Ruane family. Email me if you feel we may be related.

I am researching Ruane's in Scranton, PA. In Dunmore I have an Owen 10/12/1874 whose father was James b 1854. He and his father resided on Apple Street in Dunmore in 1900. I have Martin b 1881 and James b 1884 as brothers. James and Martin came over in 1905. But I also have Martin in the 1900 census living with his father. So 1905 seems wrong for him. I have a sister Mary b 1880 as a sister but do not have Ann or Margaret.

This sounds like your family. Can you confirm so I can validate Bonniconmlon as birth place.

If it is I have an interesting post in the Irish American Times from 1854 where a Bridget Ruane Jordan was looking for her brother John in Fall RIver Mass who she thought was in a hospital. She stated that John was from Bonniconmlon too.
