Hello, Jennifer. FTM says we are 2nd cousins once removed. Here is how I fall from the Rosengarten tree.
As you mentioned, Louis Peter Rosengarten (my Great grandfather) his first wife Mary Forsthoefel had 4 children; Mary Catherine, John Henry, Frank Anton, and John Frederick.
My grandmother was the 1st child, Mary Catherine Rosengarten, b. 04 Mar 1883, Carthegena, Ohio. Catherine married Adam Sommers in Dayton, 25 Apr 1906.
They had 6 children: Harry, Ray, Ruth, Lloyd (Buddy), Charles (Victor), and Robert. Catherine passed away 22 Mar 1978.
My father was Robert b. 04 Nov 1924 in Dayton. He married Rogene Kronenberger 14 Sep 1946 in Dayton. He died 10 Jun 1981. Bob & Rogene had 2 kids: Me (Mike) b. 28 Oct 1953 and my brother Steve b. 04 May 1959.
I have 2 children, Andrew b. 17 Nov 1981 and Julia b. 12 Jan 1987, with Christy Nestor whom I married 24 Sep 1977 in Greenville, OH.
I've lived my entire life in Dayton, Ohio area.
You may be interested to know that I have been to the church cemetery (St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Carthagena) where Louis Peter is buried. I have pictures of some of the Rosengarten/Forsthoefel headstones. I also have information on his ancestry. Your grandmother is correct; he is the son of Jacob John Rosengarten and Maria Catherina Bergers, both of Walbeck, Germany.
Just contact me thru the board here or directly via my Ancestry ID (MiksSommers53) and maybe we can share some info.
Great to hear from you! Glad you posted.
