Hi,
I have run into your family while reserching my Roppe's and believe they are connected. I think my ancestor Peter Olsen Roppe b 1812 in Fla, Hallingdal, had a brother named Ole Olsen Roppe from which your family descended. I have not been able to connect them yet. I believe another relative of your side - Dick Roppe from San Diego, CA has been trying to help me with this. There are a lot of Ole Olsens in the Norwegian records!!
My Roppe's immigrated to Lake Mills, Iowa - same area as yours. I have a cousin, Curtis Evans, who lives in Joice who has researched the area. His great-grandmother was my great- grandfather's sister - both children of Peder Olsen Gulsvigge Roppe. Oldest son, Peder, returned to Norway and ended up inheriting 3 farms, 2 by marriage. My Great grandfather was 2nd son, Tomas Petersen Gulsvigge Roppe who died in 1890 - in his 30's. He was a carpenter and fell off a ladder while working on a steeple for a church. He is buried in Bristol. My grandfather was Peter Oscar Roppe who relocated to Sawyer Co. Wisconsin with his sister Theoline and his Mother, Step father and step bro's and sisters. Peder fought in WWI in an Iowa army support unit and died of ulcers from mustard gas exposure in 1928. He was 40. My father was his second son - Orville Raymond Roppe b. 1922 - d 1987. His older brother Leslie Joseph Roppe b 1919 just died last year. I have bunches of pictures and postcards from iowa which are not labeled. Les was able to identify his dad and some others.
I would love to see any information you may have and am willing to share anything I have.
You can reach me off-list at beckymrs@gmail.com.
Becky Roppe Szozda

Looking for information on Joseph and Phoebe Roppe. They had a daughter named Minnie who is my great great grandmother. Minnie died in Vermont and was married to an Arthur Castle. If anyone had any information on this family I would greatly appreciate it. I am also trying to find where she is buried.

Hi Melissa and Beate
My name is Becky - maiden name is Roppe. My family is from Buskerud, Norway, none from France or Germany that I know of. My family goes back documented to the early 1600'. there. My mom was contacted in 1998 by a couple from Truchtersheim in France looking for related Roppe's in the US. Contact me off board and I will send you the info. Maybe it would help you in your search. My e-mail is rop4703@aol.com Becky

We are Melissa and Beate Brown (born Roppes). We are currently reseaching our Family background on the family name Roppes. All we know is that some of the family immagrated to the USA and Canada. We think they changed their name to Roppe or/and Poppes. We also know that the family original came from a French Catholic Background in France. There is not many Roppes over in Germany and it is very rare to find any family members with the name Roppes. We were just wondering if you have a similar background to ours. We would like to hear from you and hopefully we can help each other!

thank you so much! i have so much to learn about finding resources. and i think i have the slowest computer in the known world. now i have a family instead of one great grandfather. based on names, it looks like thomas was the only one that immigrated. i will also try spelling variations.

Flå is/was a parish within the clerical district known as Nes in Buskerud. If you expand your search area slightly and make allowances for spelling changes that happened when people left for a new country you'll find -
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&...
