Hi,
I have run into your family while reserching my Roppe's and believe they are connected. I think my ancestor Peter Olsen Roppe b 1812 in Fla, Hallingdal, had a brother named Ole Olsen Roppe from which your family descended. I have not been able to connect them yet. I believe another relative of your side - Dick Roppe from San Diego, CA has been trying to help me with this. There are a lot of Ole Olsens in the Norwegian records!!
My Roppe's immigrated to Lake Mills, Iowa - same area as yours. I have a cousin, Curtis Evans, who lives in Joice who has researched the area. His great-grandmother was my great- grandfather's sister - both children of Peder Olsen Gulsvigge Roppe. Oldest son, Peder, returned to Norway and ended up inheriting 3 farms, 2 by marriage. My Great grandfather was 2nd son, Tomas Petersen Gulsvigge Roppe who died in 1890 - in his 30's. He was a carpenter and fell off a ladder while working on a steeple for a church. He is buried in Bristol. My grandfather was Peter Oscar Roppe who relocated to Sawyer Co. Wisconsin with his sister Theoline and his Mother, Step father and step bro's and sisters. Peder fought in WWI in an Iowa army support unit and died of ulcers from mustard gas exposure in 1928. He was 40. My father was his second son - Orville Raymond Roppe b. 1922 - d 1987. His older brother Leslie Joseph Roppe b 1919 just died last year. I have bunches of pictures and postcards from iowa which are not labeled. Les was able to identify his dad and some others.
I would love to see any information you may have and am willing to share anything I have.
