Georgia:
Most of the information within your post appears to be erroneous. Perhaps it was taken from the database from Dr. L. David ROPER, which includes a great deal of unsourced and unreliable data, as well as totally speculative information.
To CORRECT the information for the benefit of others:
o There is no primary evidence known to me that Jesse ROPER was a son of Susannah. He may have been. Shadrach left a widow named Susannah and three minor children. Therefore Susannah might have been the mother of the younger children.
o There is no primary evidence known to me that Susannah was a LANDRUM. While Shadrach expressly identifies Samuel LANDRUM as his father-in-law and son Samuel ROPER was probably named for his grandfather, there appears to be a very significant difference in age between Samuel and Shadrach's three minor children: William P. ROPER, Jesse ROPER and Mary Ann ROPER. It is therefore far more likely that Shadrach had an earlier wife who died in childbirth. This was probably the LANDRUM wife of unknown first name.
o There is no known evidence that Shadrach was born in 1719. This is a totally SPECULATIVE invented date for which no known evidence exists. Powhatan didn't exist in 1719. The area where Shadrach ROPER lived in King William Parish, Powhatan wasn't generally settled until the 1730s. It was then Goochland county. This area was subsequently included in Cumberland county and only became Powhatan county in 1777.
o I am unaware of any evidence that Shadrach married in 1744. If YOU or any other ROPER researcher is aware of any evidence in support of this assertion, I would be interested in learning of it. He certainly was NOT married in Powhatan county, which didn't exist at the time. IF he was married at that early date, it probably was NOT to Susannah.
o There is NO EVIDENCE supporting the dates of birth shown for Samuel, William, Jesse and Mary Ann, and ALL of these are INCORRECT. The dates for the younger children are off by more than three DECADES. The date for Samuel is probably too early, as well. Samuel probably wasn't born in Powhatan which didn't exist as of the date shown. The minor children probably WERE born in Powhatan, but AFTER its creation in 1777.
o Susannah, Keziah, Elizabeth and Joseph are NOT listed in Shadrach ROPER's Will and are probably NOT his children at all.
o The Jesse ROPER born in 1781 probably IS Shadrach ROPER's son, but the middle name Mims seems to have been added by some imaginative and creative genealogist. To the best of my knowledge, no evidence exists to support such an ascription of "Mims" as a middle name. Shadrach didn't include it in his Will. NONE of the Census records show either a middle name OR even an initial. This Jesse ROPER had a grandson named Jesse Mims ROPER two generations later.
I have corrected most of this information in other posts. I appologize if this post seems a little harsh. In the past, I had often republished information appearing in Dr. Dave ROPER's ROPER Family History database, but I have found that rather than converging towards a more correct and accurate description of the family history, this database is gradually degenerating into total garbage as more and more erroneous unsourced information is substituted for actual fact.
Since there is an almost total lack of quality control as to the information included in the ROPER database, I am addressing the erroneous information here on the ROPER Message Boards in hopes that a wider dicussion and distribution of correct information can help to resolve some of the very eggregious errors.
