My grandfathers name was Edward Roome and he was born in NY 1902. It seems that his parents could not afford any more children and they gave him up for adoption. He was left at the NY foundling hospital and never knew anything about his birth family. Actually, he was kidnapped and taken to Italy for the first 11 years of his life(the woman who fostered him wanted to keep him and when she found out he was being adopted by another family she took him) It wasn't until his second marriage and after the birth of my mother that he found out "Joseph Currao" didn't exist in the census. His "family" told him the truth about his origins and he went to the orphanage for his real name. Although the foundling hospital wouldn't/couldn't tell him anything about his parents, they did give him his actual birth name due to the circumstances(he was never legally adopted by anyone) He then had all his records filed with his legal birth name...Edward Roome
If anyone has ever heard stories of a baby being given up by a Roome family in New York I would be grateful for the help.

Hi

I'm sorry to say that I am unable to help. My ROOME family are from England and I'm unaware of any of them emigrating to America. I'll keep a look out for you though.
