Alexander (Alex) C. Romas, 73, passed away Nov. 29, 1998 following a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.
Mr. Romas's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Romania in 1912 and he was born in Lorain, Ohio on July 23, 1925. He resided in the City of Green since 1969. Mr. Romas served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. In 1952, he joined the Akron Police Department, rising to the rank of detective. Mr. Romas suffered an injury on the job and retired on disability in 1968.
Mr. Romas is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie (Unger) Romas; brothers, Louis, Raymond, and William; sister, Edith. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Delilah; children, Charles (Jill) Romas of Naples Fla., Randy (Colleen) Romas of Jackson Township, Sharon Romas of Green, Karen (Mark) Humphrey of Akron, Randy (Tammy) Yates of Uniontown; sisters and brother-in-laws, Jenny and Lee Taylor of Akron, Valerie and Herbert Wise of Akron; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Ethel Rotar of Akron; five cousins, 11 nieces and nephews and 12 grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mr. Romas will be held at 8 p.m. THURSDAY at the Dunn-Quigley Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 811 Grant St., Akron, Rev. Harry Van Fleet officiating where friends may call from 6 p.m. to service time. Family suggests memorials to the Bluecoats of Summit County, 497 Overwood Rd., Akron, Ohio 44313.
