Hi CB,

I'm sorry for the delay in responding; I didn't see your post until today. If you would tell us a little more about your family, I would be happy to see if I can help you. Maybe start with your parents or grandparents (full names including maiden names if you have them, birth date or year & location, death date or year, where they lived, siblings, etc.)

You might get lucky and find information on your family at my Roddy-Ruddy One-Name Study sight here: www.roddy-ruddy.com/onename.

I hope to hear back from you,

Kim

Hi Kate: I have only recently joined the ancestry message boards and saw your message posted some years ago re Roddy's in the Midlands My maiden name was Roddy, father Ernest Patrick Roddy born in Lichfield Staffs 1899, and my grandfather was John Roddy b. 1854/55 in Kilmovee, Co Mayo. He came to Lichfield approx. 1880 and appears in the census 1881-1911, and died 1927. If you are still looking for Roddy family members and think there is a link with the Staffordshire Roddy's, you might like to check the Roddy family tree.

Gill Clifton

If you still check this board, I have answers for you: Bright Roddy was also known as "Chief Little White Buffalo." He was the son of Thomas R. Roddy (AKA Chief White Buffalo) and Ida F. O'Hearn. Thomas Roddy was elected Chief of the Winnebago Tribe, now Ho-Chunk Tribe, in September of 1899. The story made national news at the time because he was a white, Irish American. Previous to his election, he was a friend to the tribe and ran a Wild West show. You can do an Internet search and find a little more information and photos about Thomas and his son Halbert A. Bright Roddy.

Looking for (way too long!) anyone connected to Olive Josephine Roddy who lived in Beaver County, PA and or very close to that area just over the stateline into Ohio

Olive's parents were Robert Russell Roddy and Josephine Phillips, both born in PA.
They divorced while living in Beaver Co.PA. He went back into the Military and she stayed in the area. Am asuming Olive was raised in the Darlington area.

I have found Olive Josephine married David McCain.
They have 2 son's on record in 1940 Census.
Ray D. McClain b. abt 1934
Leon M. McClain b. abt 1935

I found Olive a Widow in 1956 and applying for marriage to Michael Chouinard.
Both living in Akron, Ohio.
Also found record of Olives death while living in Florida.
But I am unable to pull either Ray or Leon out of records.

Hoping someone has come across these people in their search.
Thanking you in advance for your interest.

Re: Roddy Family to Pennsylvania from Ireland

There have been some people with surname of Roddy and Ruddy who have participated in the DNA projects at FamilyTreeDNA and have genetic profiles on file with that organization.
There's a young geneticist named Dr. Tyrone Bowes (I believe either in England or Scotland) who runs a company called IrishOrigenes. He can take the DNA profile of a male Roddy, for example, and tell you with a great degree of certainty where that line originated in Ireland....for a fee. If you don't know anyone who has participated in the DNA project for the Roddy line, perhaps you can find a participant that you know and have them tested. Once that is completed (also for a fee), then Dr. Bowes can take that information and provide you with some answers.

Hi Eric,

Just found some additional info on Florence M.E. Roddy. In 1901 she & your ancestor are in Burntisland, Fife, Scotland; ED 4; p.40 Roll # CSSCT_132:
Both reside at 3 hampden Pl. Florence is listed as age 24, b. England; Marion is listed as age 18; b. Durntisland(?), Fife, Scot. Each are listed as Salvation Army Officers. Marion is listed as "visitor".

Also in 1918 in England's 1st Quarter (Jan-Feb-Mar) BMD there is a Florence Roddy, age 42 in Ashton recorded as deceased. Recorded in vol. 6d; p. 622.

Hope that may be helpful.

Sincerely,
Sally Huntley

Dont know if this helps. Mary Roddy (b. 1865) married Patrick Egan (b. 1861) and in 1901 they lived in house 24, Fauleens, Kilbeagh, Mayo. As far as we know she had the following siblings : Catherine, Bridget, Jim, and Dominic, but there could be more. If these are related I would appreciate any info you have on their other siblings and parents.

Hi Sally and thanks for your help. This may not be the Florence Roddy I am looking for. the 1911 census shows her as widowed, which could be an error, but may also turn out to be a different Florence. It's ironic thought that she is recorded in the Aston area! Will chase this up as well to see where it leads.

I am trying to find out more about Florence M E Roddy born C1876 in England.
Other than the 1901 Census record I found in Burntisland, Fife, I have not been able to trace her at all.

Florence was a Salvation Army officer and resided in Burntisland Fife in 1901 with "fellow" officer, Marion Knox. It is actually Marion who is my direct connection, but out of interest I am trying to find what happened to Florence.

Marion Knox was in Aston Manor (Birmingham)with yet another fellow Officer, Blanch Payne. The Salavtion Army kindly provided me with details about Blanche Payne (including her obituary), but they have no record of Marion Knox or Florence Roddy.

I was hoping any Roddy family members researching that family name may be able to help.

Many thanks

Eric
Metung, Victoria
Australia

I am researching Madison Levi (Key) Roddy (1840-1921), who lived in Coffee county, TN, and died in Tracy City, TN. Do you know if he is related to your family?

Thanks,

Anita
