Elizabeth ROBB married Alexander BATCHELOR in 1842 in Montreal, Quebec. They are my 2nd great grandparents. Elizabeth had a known sister, who had a daughter named Mary Jane BROWN. Mary JANE also had a brother named George. Mary Jane never married, and neither did any of Alexander's many BATCHELOR sisters. My father's cousin, who had Mary Jane living at her house for many years, tells me that Elizabeth and her known sister are from Belfast. That's the only way I know this. I am trying to find more. ROBB (aka ROBE) sisters were Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, and possibly a Sarah (although I believe this Sarah is, in actuality, the wife of brother, John ROBB). Another sister may be Martha, and there may have been a brother named John. These people were in Quebec City and then in Montreal. A Joseph MORRISON was a family friend to the ROBB and BATCHELOR grouping...
Robert Lindsay BROWN married Jane ROBB 30 June 1849 in St Gabriel's Presbyterian Chruch, Mtl, Que. They had a son, George James BROWN b 4 Aug 1850. They also had a daughter, Mary Jane BROWN 4 Sept 1853. Mary Jane did not marry. Roobert L died 2 months before MJ was born. His brother, George, took over his part at the baptism. I don't know that Mary lasted much longer, as her children were censused with her sister, Elizabeth ROBB BATCHELOR, in 1861. I have been unable to find her burial record as yet. George James DID marry 24 Sept 1877 in Coaticook, Sherbrooke, Quebec, to Cora Bell(e) PARKER. They had 5 known children. Mary Jane lived with Elizabeth, and then her daughters when Elizabeth ewas gone. They were dressmakers, and I believe they had dwarfism in the family (seemingly through the ROBB side - this from images of the BATCHELOR girls and MJ BROWN photos) Alexander BATCHELOR jr was the only one to marry - all his children were very short. One of the witnesses at Robert and Jane's marriage was a Duncan MUNRO. Robert's brother, George (a tailor), married twice - once to Janet FRASER, and they had: Janet BROWN b 9 July 1837, and Elisabeth b 29 May 1839 both likely in Montreal, baptisms were at St Gabriel's Presbyterian Mtl, Que. Janet died in 1849 and George married Mary MORRISON (this family may be important - I have yet to establish her connection to Joseph) at St Gabriel's in 1850. They had 3 known children. Mary ROBB/ROBE married a man named Joseph MORRISON. They had one (so far) known child - also a Mary Jane(I believe Mary Jane married a George PICKARD 18 July 1859 in Montreal. MJ was listed as a minor, but had consent of remaining parent). This particular union is helpful in several ways:
1) Joseph MORRISON marries Mary ROBE 26 June 1838 in Quebec at Holy Trinity. Witnesses are John ROBE and Jane ROBE.
2) Mary Jane MORRISON's baptism witnesses are: Alexander BATCHELOR, Elizabeth ROBE, and Sarah ROBE
3) A John ROBE married Sarah GOBREY or aka GOURLAY/GOURLEY 22 Nov 1838 in Quebec City - Holy Trinity Anglican. They had two daughters (known):Sarah Jane and Elizabeth - Twins - on 22 Sept 1841. The girls were baptised the same day (not a good sign, they also died that day), at Holy Trinity. Both Joseph MORRISON and John ROBE were present at the events.
4) A Martha ROBE married a Michael ENRIGHT. Martha's brother, John, was a witness. This was 27 Aug 1832 at Quebec Holy Trinity. Michael ENRIGHT was Catholique, and I don't see any of the ROBE/ROBB names as sponsors there. Not surprising.
Anyway, I am hoping someone recognises some of this and gets in touch. You can contact me at maermaid at gmail dot com, or genesaplenty at gmail dot com.
