I am trying to gather information about the John Roach family and the Jim Roach family, both of McGregor, Texas. Also, other Roach families (or relatives) in the Moody, Bruceville, Waco area. Please email me any info you may have.

My gg grandfather was John Alexander Roach. I have just started researching his family. There was a Rev. William Roach of Waco mentioned in an obit from 1968. My Roach family mostly lived in the area south of Amarillo. J.A. wife was Elizabeth Jane Starkey. They were married in Madison County Tenn. He served in tha Confederate Army during the civil war.

Mickey, your reply sounds very interesting. My gf was John Alvin Roach of McGregor, TX. His father (my ggf) was Martin Warner Roach of Adair County, KY.

My gm (John's wife) was Elizabeth (Jones) Roach.

My ggm (Martin's wife) was Nancy (England) Roach.

The story I have always heard is the Roach family migrated from KY, to TN, to TX between 1850 - 1910.

I understand that branches of this Roach family settled in various parts of Texas --- Moody, Bruceville, McGregor, Waco, Winters, Shamrock.

My father, Frank Thompson Roach (2/2/25 to 4/19/81) was born and reared in McGregor, TX. His mother eventually moved to Waco, and died there in 1964.

Dad, Mom, my brother Charles, and I moved to Fort Worth in 1959. I moved to The Woodlands (Houston) in 1996.

I'd be interested in any more background you may have.

Surnames: Vincent Roach
Vincent,
I have a John Vincent Roach in my family. I also have an Oscar Vincent Roach who was my Grandfather. My Great Grandfather was John Martin Roach. My Grandfather's wife was Sarah Elizabeth Freeman. I do not know my Great Grandfather's wife name. I think that John Martin married in Ohio County Ky. on Oct. 21, 1869. He lived in Tenn. before coming to Texas. This part of my family settled around Denton County, Texas. If any of this fits, please e-mail me at

Vincent,
My husband's grandmother was Ellie Christine Roach. She was born and reared in Waco, Texas. She died in 1987 of lung cancer in Houston, Texas. Does she tie into your Roach family?

I am a descendent of James Martin Roach. He was my GGGrandfather. My mother was Audilee, grandfather Covy Peyton "Cobe", GGrandfather James Richard. I would like to know who James Martin's parents were and where they came from? I would appreciate sharing information on this branch of the Roach family in Denton and Cooke Counties, Texas.
