I am descended from John Roach (b abt 1835)and Catherine (Kate)Murray (b abt 1845 and possibly deceased by 1900). John & Catherine emigrated to the US about 1867. Before leaving Ireland (and Tipperary is the assumed location there) they had 3 children: Mary Elizabeth (born 1861 Ireland died 1928 Toronto. She is my great grandmother, Nellie/Ellen born about 1862 and eventually married Charles Gifford, Lewis b abt 1863. After arriving in Cleveland the couple had at least two more children: Edward b abt 1867 and John b abt 1870.

I believe I have found the family in 1880 but enumerated as Rhodes. There is solid evidence that it is the same family but now there are 5 more children: Kate, Maggie, Lizzie, Anna and Agnes. In 1900 I found who I believe to be the same family however John is now widowed and has 3 of his children living with him.

My great great grandparents married in Cleveland in 1890 and had their first child there before moving back to Toronto where my great grandfather was from. My assumption is that my gr grandfather went to Cleveland looking for work. He was a bricklayer as was Mary's father, John and I believe that may be how the two met.

After Mary moved to Canada there seems to have been minimal back and forth between her family in Canada and that in Cleveland...with the exception of her sister Nellie, so I know little of my Roach family and would be interested to connect with someone who may be part of this family.
