I am Sophia Rittmeyer's great-great-grandson. My great-grandmother was Sophia and Thomas Asher Boden's daughter, Alene Boden. I'm actually very curious about the Boden line as well, as Thomas Asher is a dead end for me. If anyone has any information, I'd very much appreciate seeing that information. Thanks.

I have a great grandmother Wilimina or Minnie Retemeyer, Ritmar, Rettemyer and so many ways I can't remember what all ones I have tried. I wonder when yours were in Cook County, Illinoins. My Minnie came to the US in 1857 according to the census's and they were in Iowa, Missouri and then in 1900 and 1910 they were in Richland County, Illinois then I lose them. I can't find them listed in a cemetery or anywhere in this area but believe I saw a Minnie Moore who died in Chicago and not sure but there might have been a Alphonso or Alfonso too so that could be them. I sure wish I knew how to find this family she had to have came from Germany with her parents or someone as she was only about 3 but can't find any names of parents or a ships record where she is listed. Would appreciate any ideas you have for tracing them it might be part of the same family do you think so ?

Wilheminie 'Minnie' Retemeyer born Abt 1854 in Hanover, Germany or Prussia, Germany have seen both. She came to this country in either 1856 or 1857 according to the census and married Alphonso Moore who was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia they married I think? in Lincoln, Calhoun, Iowa bef 1870. Boy that is a lot of trying to figure things out with not many facts. Hope they maybe are the same family ?

I am so excited to see the mention of William Rittmeyer of Chicago, as he was the younger brother of my great grandfather, Frederick Rittmeyer, who came with his family in the 1880s to Chicago from West Prussia!! William was born 3 Oct 1882 in Chicago, married Sarah Edminson on 21 Jun 1905 in Hawthorne, Illinois. They were two of nine brothers altogether, and one sister. The brothers were Fred, Frank, Robert, Gustav, William, Otto, Joseph, Edward. Their sister was Helen...who married Frank Edward Webber. The parents of the brothers and Helen were Herman Rittmeyer and Caroline Michaelis.
I know the family history, dates, marriages, descendants...my grandmother was Dorothea Rittmeyer, the daughter of Frederick. Please get in touch with me...

Annie Gegan
gegan@cal.net

Names of the nine brothers include: Frederick (my great grandfather), Otto (who moved to California), Robert, Frank, Gustav,
William, and Edward (who I think never married), and Karl, and Joseph. I have their wedding dates & spouse names, too. My mother says that cousins lived in Milwaukee, WI.

I am descended from one of nine Rittmeyer brothers who lived in Chicago, IL One of the brothers was named Anton Rittmeyer, and his wife was Sophie. I know they had a son named Anthony Philip Rittmeyer, and perhaps they had a daughter named after the mother.

Hi, Angela! My great grandfather was Frederick Rittmeyer, son of Herman and Caroline Rittmeyer...immigrated from West Prussia in 1882 to Chicago. Frederick was one of nine brothers (Otto, Frank, William, Edward, Gustav, Robert, Joseph, Karl (or "Carl"), and one sister Helen Rittmeyer. I have data for all of the brothers & Helen (who married Frank Edward Webber, and died in childbirth in 1929). Herman and Caroline had a grandson named John who lived with them ~ 1910. I think his father was Joseph...who may have died in the 1918 flu epidemic. If this sounds like your family, please contact me -
gegan@cal.net

Annie Gegan

My grandmother was Dorothea Rittmeyer, the daughter of Frederick Rittmeyer, the son of Herman Rittmeyer - who brought his family from Germany in the 1880s. They settled in the Chicago, IL, area. The family had nine boys and one girl named Helen. Some of the sons names were Gustav, Robert, Frank, Edward, and John. Do any of these Rittmeyers sound familiar? Supposedly one of the sons left for California, but I do not know his name.

Annie
