BLUE HILL, Maine-Edwin Robert Rittmeyer, 94, of Parker Ridge, died Wednesday at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Chicago, the son of William and Sarah (Edminson) Rittmeyer. He lived in the Philadelphia area for almost 40 years before moving to Blue Hill, Maine, four years ago. He worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. for 42 years, retiring as a general credit manager. Rittmeyer was founder and past president of the Northeast Community Mental Health Center in Philadelphia and was honored with a wing of the building in his name; was named Man of the Year in 1970 by Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Person of the Year in 1986; was an honorary member of the LuLu Country Club in Philadelphia; was a mason and belonged to the Friendship No. 400 Masonic Lodge in Jenkintown, Pa., and the Ira Berry Masonic Lodge No. 128; and served as trustee on the Oak Park Village Association in Oak Park, Ill. He was an avid golfer and recognized as a regular and dedicated "Early Morning Swmmer" by the YMCA in Ellsworth, Maine. Survivors include two sons, William Rittmeyer of Concord and Gordon Rittmeyer of Stonington, Maine; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His wife of 63 years, Florence (Sewnig) Rittmeyer, died in 1997. Memorial services will be held Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. in Parker Ridge Retirement Community, South Street, Blue Hill, Maine. Memorial donations may be made to the Edwin Rittmeyer Gathering Place, c/o Northeast Community Center for Mental Retardation, Roosevelt Blvd. & Adams Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. 19124.
