Alden J. Ritter, 94, died in Belleair, Florida, Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

The son of John Ritter and Christea (Hickok) Ritter, Alden was born December 20, 1919 in Center Creek Township, Martin County, Minnesota. He graduated from Mankato State College.

During World War II, while attending the military’s meteorological training program at the University of Chicago, he met Helen Fenn, who would become his wife of 70 years.

Returning from service in the CBI Theater, the couple settled in Elyria, Ohio, where they raised their family. Alden was employed by Luxaire where he advanced to the position of VP of Engineering.

He was an active member of Rotary. Their social life centered around friends in their supper club. Alden developed a passion for the game of golf, playing as recently as last summer. He was also an avid hunter, participating in the Black River Gun Club, LaGrange Hunting and Fishing Club, Izaak Walton League, and participated in AKC pointing field trials.
He enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie with his friends, as well as at the Rockwell Springs Trout Club. In retirement, he returned to his roots, buying a small farm in near Oberlin, Ohio.

Alden and Helen were also adventurous RVer’s, exploring the four corners of North America and south through Central America and even abroad to China, Africa and Ireland. They wintered in Belleaire, Florida

Alden is survived by his wife, Helen; and his four children, Cheryl Baranano (Eduardo), Grant Ritter (Elizabeth), Nancy Lewis (Lesley) and John Ritter (Ellen); 10 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; his loving sister, Joyce Stusse; and brother, Deane.

Interment will be in the family plot in Chicago, Illinois.
