My maternal grandmother was Jemima Macintosh Ririe from Skeene. She along with some of her siblings emigrated to Montreal Canada in 1913. I have just started to trace the RIRIE family in Aberdeenshire.
My HANNING conection stems from James Howatson HANNING, born in Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire in August 1810. While I have found siblings in the old parish registers, I have been unable to positively trace back into the previous generations.
J.H.HANNING married a Margaret MC LEAN, born in 1816 in Badenoch, Scotland to Peter MC LEAN and Margaret MARTIN.
The KERR family from Ecclefchan I have been able to trace however faintly. The earliest confirmed ancestor is John James KERR born September 1 1799 in Ecclfechan. The family appears to be merchants and shipowners who aided the British (naturally) in the American war of independance. I am currently atempting to substantiate a family rumor that a KERR was connected somehow with Hudsons Bay explorations in Canada. I have found a John KERR a surgeon on the "Diligence" who died at Charleton Island, Hudsons Bay in 1682, according to the Hudson Bay Record Society.
Thanks for your response and I would appreciate learning of anyone pursuing similar lines of research.
sincerely,
Jeff Hanning
Toronto, Canada

I am trying to find information on a Rev Andew Ryrie b. 1842 descendants and previous generations . His father was James Ryrie b.1811 Land factor from Muiravonside near Stirling. We had a very old bible with a goatskin cover dating back to 1770s so we think there may have been previous ministers in the family..
