Hi Jack! I have read most of the queries posted here on the Riney board. I've seen the postings about Jeremiah & Mary Ann Sheehan. My book list a Mary E. and a Polly SHEHAN marriages, [no SHEEHAN's are listed] Mary E. is listed as marrying Gabriel Mobley 10/15/1872, and Polly is listed as marrying Cornelius Ridge 9/3/1818. [Washington Co.Ky. marriages] I've found through my research, Polly is a name VERY often used for Mary. The only marriage my book shows for Jeremiah Riney is to Polly Moore.
My real interest here is in Justin McCarty, the patriarch [to date] of my McCarty family. There's a Justin McCarty [we believe is ours] 1st. found in Ky. in Fayette Co. in 1792, and our Justin shows on the Ky. tax list 1793 Wash. Co. Ky. We've seen printed documentation he fought in the Rev. war, enlisted in 1776 in PA., and discharged 1781 at Fells Point, MD. We can't find anything on him before 1776 or from 1781 -1792.
I don't feel Justin would have been Polly Moore's guardian if a link wasn't between him and the Moore family. Since we can't find documentation for Justin prior to his arrival to Ky., our only route to take is collateral lines and neighbors. We are trying to find his place of birth, where he lived at, as well as the names of his parents & siblings. I have early family handwritten notes that says Justin supposedly married in MD., [to a Mary Fletcher or Letcher] which puts Justin being there for awhile [at least] after his discharge. Since Justin was discharged in Md., and the Moore's & Riney's I'm finding come to Ky. from Md. I'm trying to find that link of Justin being in Md. with/near them. Far fetched? We've searched more extreme possibilities on Justin!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Judy
