Attached is the 1850 Decatur Co., TN census, Dist. 2 showing a Syrus RIGGS, 57, b. NC; wife, Jane and family.

Does anyone connect with this RIGGS family? Were they related to William George RIGGS, b. 1828, AL, who is also shown on the 1850 Decatur census, 6th District?

I just came acrossed your post for Syrus Riggs. I also have been trying to find out where he came from. I have tracked him forward to 1880 and back to William 1728? I think. William's father is suppose to be Samuel 1681 but he was never in NC where William was born. If William was born In New Jersey he would fit in as a brother to Tim, Ed, Sam, Reuben.

Marilou, I haven't yet connected this Syrus to my particular RIGGS line. Finding him on the 1850 Decatur Co., TN census caught my eye because William George RIGGS, b. 11 Mar. 1828, is on that census.

William George's siblings, Isaah and sister Mary are on the 1860 census for Decatur Co., TN, having migrated there from Tishomingo Co., MS. Siblings Samuel and sister Sarah are on the 1870 census for Decatur Co., TN as well.

So with that heavy concentration of my RIGGS line in Decatur Co., TN I hoped to see Syrus there again in 1860, but so far
I haven't found Syrus on the 1860 census anywhere.

Doubt if Syrus will help you. They spell his name Cyrus. He went to Fox River, White, Illinois in 1860&70.
He was in Henderson TN in 1830&40.

I think I have him linked to William 1728 by his son John.Still not 100% sure on that.
