Surnames: RIGGS, BREESE
In the (U.S.A.) Breese family genealogies, Dorothy Riggs is listed as the wife of John Breese, both buried in Basking Ridge, NJ. Dorothy's parents are given as Edward Riggs and Aphia Stoughton, both of Newark/Basking Ridge, NJ. Edward is shown as the great grandson of the Edward Riggs who moved from England to Roxbury, MA in the 1600s.

In the on-line Riggs Surname Study, which seems to be extremely well researched and documented, Edward and Aphia do not have a daughter named Dorothy. Their last child born in Basking Ridge is David, b. 1709.

Can anyone help with the mysterious Dorothy? Is she an Edward of Roxbury descendant? Thank you very much.

Sorry. I guess I wasn't clear. I'm sure John Breese was married to a woman named Dorothy Riggs. My question is, has anyone done some primary or secondary research to identify Dorothy as the daughter of Edward and Aphia Riggs? It's her ancestors, not her name that I'm unsure about. My guess is that she is daughter to Edward and Aphia, since there are other clues in other sources that point in that direction. But there are a lot of genealogical mistakes based on guesses....

This is what I know. The assumption that Dorothy Riggs was born in Scotland isn't correct. There has been enough research to suggest that she wasn't.

I'm desecended from Dorothy and John Breese through their son Azariah.
