Hi Chellee -

Fred Riemenschneider is an ancestor of mine and I was excited to find this thread as I now live in Boulder and didn't know any Riemenschneiders came to CO. Are you saying that Fred is in the Gold Hill Cemetery or is there some confusion that perhaps he is interred in JeffCo somewhere?

I will also check my mother's collection of family photos and see if we have any of Fred (my grandfather's great uncle).

Thanks,

Jessica
Hi JoAnn,
Elli Cox (Jim's widow) gave me all of Jim's Gold Hill research and correspondence. I am currently updating the Gold Hill Cemetery records and any information you have on Fred and Salvina Riemenschneider (and photos if you would be so kind to share) would be greatly appreciated. The cemetery records will be a future publication, dedicated in part to Jim. Many thanks!
Chellee Courtney
President of Historic Gold Hill, Inc.
www.goldhillmuseum.org
The Riemenscheiders in this book were in Pennsylvania in the 1700's so if your interest is in more recent immigrants you will not find them in this book. ddf.

Hello, Bill!

There is a middle-aged person whose name is Don(ald) Remenschneider who is in charge of the Lutheran Cemetery Association in Ft. Wayne, IN. The Riemenschneider name was with the "i", but was dropped by some of them in the middle of the 20th Century after arriving here in the Ft. Wayne area. This man's great aunt retained the "i" in her name.

Donny Remenschneider could most likely give you some information. Also, I know a Sharon (Remenschneider) Gerig here in my neighborhood, who is also a part of the same family. I know them both quite well.

If you want, I can get their permission to respond. I think you may have the correct Reimenschneider family.

Best regards.

Rev. Dr. Ralph M Wetzel (Jr.)

Please, contact the members of the family & ask if they know a Donald Riemenschneider,or if they know anything about Clara or Selma, who both resided in Ohio. I would appreciate anything you can find out.Ask them if they have attended any family reunion meetings either online or in Ohio or Michigan or Florida,& ask if they know anything about Clara's marriage.

Thanks for the information expecially re looking in Berks County. We are not trying to build the family tree. We are only novices and just found it interesting that our father (Celester Clayton Hursell) was listed in the book. We don't know where he got it but we found it in his possesions after his death. The book is so old and shows no publisher or date. It is interesting that a book could be put together in such detail.

Sorry that I cannot give you more information, as the following:

The city "Gadesnstedt" should most probably read as "Gadenstedt". It is a part now of the community of "Lahstedt" in the County of Peine, close to Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony.

As your great grandmother Fredericka was born in 1915, the town hall should have a copy of their death certificate.
Reemsnyder book

The book [238 pages], The Family History of Herman Frederick Reemsnyder and his Descendants,1908, is online at www.archive.org, search Reemsnyder. The PDF version shows pics of the actual pages but is a large download, although quick to change pages by clicking an arrow. The "full text" version is a faster download by is only a typed copy of the text requiring tedious scrolling. HFR [1742-1808] originally spelled his name Riemenschneider. He married Margaret Anne Musser [1762-1815]. Her picture shows in the PDF but not in the "full text". Don Forrer.

I have a lot of family that lives in and around River Falls. I would be happy to look for more information and see if we are connected somehow. My desire is the same as yours to located info on realtives I have yet to meet and ones that I will never get the chance to. Do you know if your family is related to Tilman Riemenschneider? That is one starting point that may help us get this figured out. Talk to you soon I hope. Jennifer

I assume the book you are referring to is the Herman Reemsnyder Family History, 1742-1908. Just a word of caution about using books such as this - there are inaccuracies in it. The authors who put it together in 1905 did the best they could, but they didn't have the resources available to us today. It is a good starting point, but you have to check the records yourself to verify the information. Some of it in the book is misleading. For example, the authors say they couldn't trace Margaret's family. Actually Margaret's family is quite easy to trace - if you look in Berks County, not Lancaster.
